There are no non-ridiculous ones. The Deist god is about as useful as tits on a bull.

While I agree that "deism" is not nearly as dangerous or crazy as theism, I still think it is an irrational position to take.

Basically, what deists are saying is that some supernatural being or force which most people call "god" must have put the universe into motion which led to our existence. Just like theism, the deist point of view is not based on evidence but assumptions and very weak ones at that.

Heck, I can claim that pixie fairies created the universe while riding magical unicorns but then they disappeared never to be seen again and my claim would be no different than the deist claim. There is no rational or good reason to take the deist point of view.

Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Deists are clinging on to the last vestige of a mythology that will become extinct when a civilization reaches it's end and another one takes it's place. The fate of all religions of ancient cultures is the same, a mythology people read about in their present. Assuming that our current civilization is not going to experience the same factor of the only constant being change is hopeful, wishful and conservative ignorance rearing it's ugly head. We will be a Type 1 civilization in about 100 years and will not practice what Type 0 civilization prehistoric Bronze Age troglodytes wrote in a book instead of a cave wall. For the same reason that present day people don't seek guidance in prehistoric cave paintings.

You think we'll get rid of religion in a measly 100 years ? It's been over 100 years since Darwin and we still have Creationists. Your optimism is funny in a sad way Big Grin

No, but in a measly 100 years, atheist won't be a minority that you can ignore
