I’d be surprised if I was, but I’ll ask anyways; am I the only one becoming increasingly worried about the future of democracy?

Too late. It's gone.

RE: The Future of Democracy
I made a post recently about the nature of democracy and how it should be in my opinion.

I think before you ask this question, you need to ask if the current system is a true democracy. I also think there cant be democracy with capitalism. I think we need to develop an economic system based on progress, and not the accumulation of wealth.

I live in a constitutionally guided representative based republic.

Democracy it isn' t.

As long as representatives are elected by the people, then you have some form of democracy in your government. Where I live, in the US, the right to vote for representatives is enshrined in the constitution. Therefore the US fits both the definitions of a Constitutional Republic AND a Representative Democracy. But splitting hairs over what to label our government isn’t really what concerns me. What concerns me is the rise of pro-autocratic sentiment among certain vocal minorities, and whether they can get a foothold in the government due to disproportional representation. That, is my primary concern.

Accuracy counts. Just calling your government a democracy doesn' t make it one...

Democratic Republic of North Korea ? Oh yeah?

Democracy in the U.S. is seriously ill and could be ending. The situation in certain countries worldwide is similar. But democracy is a very popular solution so it's unlikely to die out in the world as a whole.

RE: The Future of Democracy
I think we need to accept the fact that it's not a small crowd of vocal people. Just like it's never actually been a bunch of lone wolves.

We're at a low point right now because the majority of the majority demo in the us believes that democracy is, in some strange way, victimizing them. That's not fixable. Even disproportionate representation isn't enough.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

But the reason they're not a democracy is that they're actually an autocracy and the election system is subverted so the votes don't matter at all. It's not a republic, either.

When minority elites feel threatened by a majority, they will happily give up democracy to keep their class, tribe, or race in power.

RE: The Future of Democracy
In the us, at present, it's coming from the bottom up - not the top down. The fact that cynical elites, supposedly representing them, take this as an opportunity to grift their base is, granted, a thing that every manifesto goes on about about at length in murderous frustration.

They're tired of sending people to washington to enact terrible policies, and seeing those terrible policies fail to materialize or be immediately struck down in the courts, as their "rep" walks off with a bag of cash.... while they just keep getting poorer and losing ground - either in reality or in their perception of things.
