Of laptops and power cords......

Of laptops and power cords......
About 15 minutes ago I bumped my plugged in laptop on my bed, and it slid off and hit the floor. but it landed on it's side where the cord is, and so hard it bent the metal casing of the laptop. I was able to bend it back in place over the hole where you stick the power cord in. But I wonder if I bent the peg inside the laptop housing and broke a connection making charging the battery impossible. I guess only time will tell.

Right now my laptop is plugged in, but when I click on the battery icon it says it only tracks battery usage when it is on battery power, not when it is plugged in. But I am plugged in and when I hit battery settings it is still telling me how much time I have remaining on my battery charge.

Unlikely, even a few microns of contact is enough to carry a charge - though alot of damaged power cords make the unit hot (physically restricted flow paths for current)..they shouldn't compromise basic usability. As the assembly gets hotter, it's less conducive - so there's a breakpoint for every unit where significant damage means it can only charge at the rate it can deplete (or less under load). As long as you don't mind the cord, even a psu damaged unit has another few years left in it. If all that fails (and or on top of that) amd just announced a top down reduction on the prices of all of it's legacy cores - so...after years of famine, you might be able to get a new(to you) next gen(then) unit on the cheap(relatively) - like in the good old days.

Bit of advice, if long term usability is an item, stop fucking around with laptops. They're once and done products, and not significantly smaller that contemporary desktop units with a split between hardware and interface. The Way is a gui on an interface device (mostly a screen) with a big liquid cooled baller piece of hardware in the closet. At point of use, and depending on your local betwork, they're identical. Something to think about.

No no no, my concern is NOT the power cord itself. My concern is the connection peg, or jack inside the laptop. I am

The jack is fine. It still works. Or if it doesnt....whats the problem? Get new shit. It's finally affordable again.

As long as a piece of metal does not suffer fatigue, no issues. Just bend it back.

Unplug your laptop. Look at the icon to see how much charge you have left. Plug your laptop in for a couple of hours, then unplug it and look at the icon again.

If the second reading shows a greater charge than the first reading, you’re fine. If the second reading shows the same or a lower reading than the first one, your jack input is fucked and your whole world is about to come crashing down around you.

What's amusing(to me), is that contemporary electronics are designed with a ten to one use to consumption ratio. Your shit has to be really fucked up....to use excess energy, and all of it is designed to be charged off use.....

His laptop may be rebelling against the constant playing of ABBA dreck.

Maybe if his laptop dies, he’ll have more time to fix his barstool screws.
