teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

They didn't burn witches. They hanged them. Important distinction.

That’s an American thing. Europeans burned theirs. Americans may follow suit though. I mean if you’re gonna burn books anyone, just toss the odd witch on the pyre. Two birds with one stone kinda thing.

Seeing as this is nothing more than tyranny this picture seems to be relevant. As a side note and historical curiosity - no book on Nazi Germany that I've read ever mentioned punishing women for miscarriage. Food for thought.

Thank you, Donald Trump.
Quote:A Texas woman died after the hospital said it would be a “crime” to intervene in her miscarriage
She Died After a Miscarriage: Doctors said it was “inevitable” that Josseli Barnica would miscarry. Yet they waited 40 hours for the fetal heartbeat to stop. She died of an infection three days later.
Two Texas Women Died: Barnica is one of at least two Texas women who died after doctors delayed treating miscarriages, ProPublica found.
Death Was “Preventable”: More than a dozen doctors who reviewed the case at ProPublica’s request said Barnica’s death was “preventable.” They called it “horrific,” “astounding” and “egregious.”

With abortion back on the ballot, I'm hoping women's rights will be restored.

The Catholic Church Is Spending Big to Defeat Abortion Rights Ballot Measures
From Florida to Colorado, diocese and organizations are backing pro-life campaigns.
Since Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022, every state-level campaign to limit abortion has failed. But that hasn’t stopped Catholic organizations from stepping into the fight again this election year.
Catholic organizations are bankrolling campaigns against abortion-rights measures, spending at least $1.5 million so far in five of the 10 states where such measures are on the ballot.
In Florida alone, dioceses and bishops have spent more than $1.1 million, and church entities in South Dakota have recently ramped up spending as the election nears. In other states, the church’s hierarchy may be sitting out financially, but wealthy individuals with well-established associations with the Catholic Church, or church-affiliated groups—like local parishes and Knights of Columbus chapters—have stepped into the fray.
