I live in SC, I can't throw a rock without hitting a Christian who thinks God is a being who thinks, answers prayers, and has a spot in hell reserved for people like me. 56% of Americans believe in the God described in the Bible. 67% of Americans think that God or a higher power has rewarded them, 40% think that God or a higher power has punished them. The majority of Americans believe in a deity that does resemble a Platonic form. I don't have an issue with more abstract conceptions of God, the people whose belief resembles that neither pick my pocket nor break my leg, nor try to manifest Dominionism.

OFC. This has never been anything other than an attempt at retroactive syncretism - driven by the belief that christianity needs a "proper" philosophical underpinning, which it lacked from its inception..and.... further, believing that the decidedly unchristian rantings of a long dead pagan was just the place to get one. It doesn't, and it wouldn't find one in platonic forms even if it did.
It boggles the mind - or..it would, if anyone believed in it...but they don't.
