The Grand Nudger Wrote:Wall of text; Wall of text; Wall of text Have I not been clear? I am looking for some remotely-reliable source that is saying something along the lines of:
Quote:Use of antibiotics in plant agriculture, in spite of accounting for only around 0.5% of total use of antibiotics, is probably the biggest contributor to antibiotic resistance in humans.
Writing a wall of text is not the same as giving a source for the claim. I could write a wall of text about my hypothesis that German "Tier" and Latin "fera" are related, but I could not point to a reliable source claiming that.

Regenerative agriculture, that The Grand Nudger is advocating, is considered pseudoscience by the vast majority of biologists, as you can tell by looking it up on Wikipedia (or looking up "Allan Savory", which he seems to be parroting). He is clearly not advocating mainstream science-based agriculture. As such, I see no reason to believe anything he is saying about agriculture, especially if it is such an extraordinary claim that 0.5% of antibiotics that are used in plant agriculture somehow account for more antibiotic resistance than 70% (or so) that are used in chicken farming.

I am genuinely hoping I am unintentionally straw-manning The Grand Nudger, that he is not actually claiming that those 0.5% of antibiotics used in plant agriculture are to be blamed for most antibiotic resistance in humans. But it seems to me more and more that he is actually claiming that.

More likely somewhere between intent, desperation, and embarasment. If you want to know the largest contributor to amr in humans overall, as I already mentioned, try some other three letter agency. If you want to know the largest potential reservoirs of amr -in ag-..shamble on over...to the usda. You can learn about regenerative ag there, too. Here, I'll get you started with a clearinghouse link to all the nrcdc and attra stuff. No clue who allan savory is - but looking it up on google..something you seem to be allergic to yourself despite imploring others to do so, tells me he advocates for something called holistic management, and claims that cattle can reverse agw. Unlikely, otoh, he does have a point I think you and I both would agree with. To wit.
Quote:It is almost criminal to have them in feedlots which are inhumane, antisocial, and environmentally and economically unsound.

(and..I know..I know, the usda is obviously not a remotely credible source, run as it is by the werewolf nwo)

Yet another opportunity presents itself. Let's just go ahead and assume that we're dealing with two bad ideas. An exclusively suboptimal decision field.
If you had to choose between feedlots and allan savory, would you need to be compelled to vote for either? If so, would you...and which one, or would you take the (likely) fine for refusing to cooperate? Additionally, if your neighbor did not wish to absorb the fine, or believed that one or the other was the better idea between two bad ideas, how confident would you be in designating that neighbor as a morally evil person? Further...and this is really drilling down.... what utility does or would that designation, as a morally evil person, have? Is it such that you/we would then feel that their vote is, by virtue of being evil, irrelevant and/or illegitimate?

Yet again, no source is given for the claim that plant agriculture is responsible for most antibiotic resistance in humans, in spite of accounting for only around 0.5% of antibiotic use.
