apparently the nazgûl could only vaguely sense the proximity of the ring unless someone actually put the ring on.   even if the ring is put on it does not allow sauron or his minions to pin point the ring’s location from afar, else sauron would have had large number of opportunities to track down the ring while Gollum had it.

It’s more accurate that Sauron called to the Ring. It had a vague sort of sentience that made it try to get back to Sauron.

Nope, one side doesn't need to be perfect for the other side to be indefensibly evil. The Elves don't need to be flawless for Morgoth to be a totally irredeemable monster. When you replace black and white with grey all you have done is replace two colors with one.
