How on earth do you get from someone using a popular turn of phrase to him actually wanting to go about doing it?

1) I never said you were completely wrong about him; my beef was with you taking something he said literally when it was clearly said as a turn of phrase.

2) He is not a libertarian.

3) I don't appreciate the sarcasm; I was trying to make a valid point about your attitude. When discussing other people's opinions, or things that they say, it is usually civil to actually attack what they say, and not a strawman of what they say. I've noticed you don't care for this much in other threads though, so maybe I shouldn't even bother in future.

He laughs a bit as he says it; the audience laugh, and they applaud the statement. They understand perfectly well what he meant by it; I'm just astounded that so many people here think he was actually being serious.

Right, but instead of taking his words out of context to mean something he evidently didn't convey, why not be angry at the stuff he does, or the things he actually supports?

I mean, Obama said in his election campaign that he wanted to visit 57 states of America, and that he had Muslim beliefs. Both of which were accidental slip ups, and perfectly understandable when you look at how much stress he was under. Did it stop the other side from using them out of context? No.

My point? If you want to be better than them, don't do the same thing when some Republican slips up or says something that wasn't meant to be taken literally.
