It's not the object. It's the principle.

Burning is underrated. Fire is cleansing, after all.

My example was specific to single instances.  Your example was a mass destruction of Jewish literature.

I must ask, In my youth I had a job with a tree-clearing/Trimming crew. I had to throw what they cut into a woodchipper. I remember along this long stretch of road, with lots of garbage was amongst other things, a bible. Being a bit of an aggressive atheist back then I threw it in the woodchipper. Would you liken me to a Nazi?

To paraphrase  Jean Luc Picard. How many does it take before it becomes wrong? Also, the Nazis didn't just destroy Jewish literature they destroyed anything that didn't agree with or contradicted their idealogy. This instance now of a politician engaging in the destruction of a piece of Muslim Literature should give us pause.

In terms of the worst excesses of racism and political  fascism no. In terms of incivility and frankly moral wrongness in the act of destroying literature yes. Destroying a bible is just as wrong as burning a heap of Jewish books and just as barbaric.

Yes. That’s how I would proceed too.

Also: How do I even answer to that guy? DO I tell “Oh if you burn my Quran I shall make a video in which I … on a copy of Mein Kampf!!!” ( I Mean where doeas that lead us anyway? Smile

It’s just that it means something to some people. What do you call me if I do anything like that with an original disc from Elvis Presley? You will call me something right?

And it’s a cultural element too. I don’t believe in Voodoo. But I won’t do any of these things to a voodoo idol.

Bird cage liner is a great suggestion.  Recycling and all that.  We have two parrots who would happily crap all over those pages.

If it’s old and nobody wants it. You may recycle it. Recycling is good. But I would do it discreetly Smile

I wouldn’t do such a thing and then upload it on social media. Smile

In a multicultural world it is always better to try not to hurt the feelings of other communities. I am rarely wrong about these things and here it is:

Palestinian man, German train, Knife attack. 2 dead, several wounded.

Not everyone can have my stoic approach toward this Neo-Nazi man. Some will feel insulted. Some will even use such events to put fuel on the fire. So my position stands Smile

Yes. There are Christians in your country. You could have left in on a table on the school cafeteria. Why would you do such a thing? Was it very old and unsuable?
