Why wouldn't free iron (found in lentil, spinach, white meat, fish...) be good for you?

Because free iron is unbound. It can damage organs, facilitate the spreading of cancer cells, cause bad bacteria to flourish and (at very high levels) damage DNA.

Then why it is that nearly all studies about that show that the heme iron increases the risk of various cancers (most strongly colon cancer), rather than the free iron?

Heme iron or free iron?

I take a supplement in the dosage the oncologist prescribed.  I saw him about 3 years ago while completing several months of B-12 shots.  Since he is a doctor (oncology/hematology) and was recommended by my regular doctor I figured he might have a clue what he was talking about.

If you must know I only take it every other day to help keep my body from being dependent on it by forcing/tricking it into maintaining the levels.

What you think about it means nothing at all to me.  As long as my bloodwork holds steady I am going to go with - it's working for me.

That... er... doesn't answer the question.

Oh well.  That sure sucks, doesn't it?

No studies show that. It’s excessive heme iron that slightly increase the risk of colon and rectal cancer. Proper levels of heme keep you from dying.

Since 95% of the functional iron in your body at any given time is heme iron, it beggars belief that it’s bad for you.

A simple truth is, if you had been taking heme iron supplements your entire life to treat anemia... then it's plausible that your breast cancer is iatrogenic.

I have NOT been taking it my entire life, try again.  If you could read, you would see that I said about 3 years ago.

I had breast cancer in 2009.  Do the math.

I wonder if you think it's a good idea to drink blood... That's not how nutrition works at all. Just because cholesterol in your blood causes various health problems, that doesn't mean cholesterol you eat causes them. Similarly, just because heme iron in your blood doesn't cause colon cancer, that doesn't mean heme iron you eat doesn't cause it.

You literally said that was your lifelong problem.
