I'd say this thread has been slightly hijacked, but it's a good one so I'm going to jump in on the side of defending my country's position.

Yes, the US is far from perfect, and yes we still have a lot of crazies walking around with dark thoughts and violent ideas. That does not change the fact that most of us are ordinary people who want to protect our rights. Rights that most of the world don't have. And one of those rights is the Right to Bear Arms. If your country does not allow you this right and you're fine with that - than thats great for you, but that doesn't work for us. We like hunting, we like sport shooting, we like knowing that we can personally protect our land from an invading army just by banding together with our neighbors, and we like knowing that we can protect our families in their beds with deadly force. WE LIKE being American and MOST of us will not apologize for that. You don't want guns. Fine. We do and just for the record - the people you see killing other people on TV by means of a firearm - well, most of those dangerous people are using firearms illegally anyway and gun laws would never have saved us from them ..... just like anti-theft laws in Europe won't save you from thieves. People are assholes and they will take ANYTHING, including a gun, and turn it into something they can control others with.

True, but all I need is an automatic pistol and some distance away from you(farther than melee combat distance) and bam! Now you have to either doge my gun(which is impossible if you aren't moving too fast for me to aim and shoot) or get to me(before you get shot or your screwed) and disarm me(which you can't do if you're shot). Oh, and I can use any gun I like, and any distance I choose.....not too far for me to not see you of course...how can your martial arts save your ass now?

I'm originally from Arizona, and i can fairly say that almost everyone already has a gun in the open or concealed, so it really makes no difference. Oh and i would gladly take my life into my hands instead of anyones else's. Let me quote a comman bumper sticker lol "I'll Take My Guns, My Money, My Freedom".

Instead of discussing the carrying of weapons, how about the effectiveness and uses as well as dangers? I'd like a proper discussion with a real adult. So far Rev, and Dotard, seem to have taken things way too seriously and personally. I can't help but resent them a little as a result. I don't want to debate with them any further. But if you wish to continue, let me know.

This is based on an event that is convenient for you. No two situations are the same. If I had nothing to run behind, and that you were too far for me to take on with hand to hand combat, then yes, I'll have to put my hands up and surrender. It's all down to the situation you are in. Not all situations are convenient like that though. I could have friends with me, this is yet another convenience.
