Atheism is a realization that gods are man-made ideas and can be traced back to the cultures who invented them, to the approximate century they were invented in, and how long it took for the newly invented myths to reach California. This realization is at the root of all Atheist thought and is also the same realization that theists use to dismiss other gods in other cultures that they do not believe in.

Among the most common misconceptions is the idea that Atheism is just another form of religious belief. This is not true. A religious belief is an assumption that a myth is real. Atheism is a realization that myths are cultural ideas that vary by Time, Geography and Circumstance.

Negatron.  Atheism doesn't have anything to do with religion...and most atheists are, in fact, religious.  It's a testament to how narrowly and how foolishly abrahamism has described religion that atheists in abrahamic societies often express this sentiment.  Bluntly, it's us aping our silly oppressor.

I used to end up on the other end of this one alot, myself.  With some nutbar theists saying that -because- I'm an atheist, I must be religious.  Well.  No.  Because I'm an atheist, a smaller section of religious thinking will appeal to me.  If those other things appeal to me then those things are why I'm religious, insomuch as I am (hypothetically or actually), nothing to do with not believing in gods.

Jesus appeals to me like a hole in the head.

Oh me too. It's just not my brand. Zen Buddhism appeals to me, though. So does Asatru and ritual magic. I mean, I know nothing miraculous is happening, but that's neither here nor there, eh? I also have what could be credibly called a civil religion. Then theres the overt indoctrination on top. My ranger god. She's a fan of pre-dawn attacks.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Do you practice your ritual magic as a placebo, psychological, and artistic practice, then? I enjoy dabbling in some magical practices on that level.

Psychological, I guess? I key in on zen in the garden for the same reason that someone might smoke a joint. Actually, I like to combine those two things. Here's a fun weird thing, though. I do feel like, if I hold my palms down, I can feel the ground "breathing".

That's probably what it is. Realizing that your experience is a toy. That you can have fun with it.

Under the right set of circumstances, I could be sympathetic to ritual magic. Hot chicks dancing round a pentacle in the nuddy could be a religious experience.

Add a beach and some drums, you've got a movie.

‘Sex magick’ strikes me as a redundant term. Wink
