He'll just kidnap all of the kids working in sweatshops and make them build it for 5 cents an hour.

Gallup: the world is stressed, worried, sad and in pain

Quote:Last year, global levels of unhappiness reached their highest point in more than a decade, according to the latest annual Gallup Global Emotions report, which was released earlier this week.

For the report, Gallup conducted interviews in 2017 with more than 154,000 adults in more than 145 countries to assess the emotional lives of people around the world. People were asked if they had experienced worry, stress, physical pain, anger or sadness for “a lot of the day” on the day before the survey.

More respondents answered “yes” than in any survey since 2005, raising the global “negative experience index” to a new high of 30. That was two points higher than in 2016.

Specifically, 38 percent of the people surveyed said they had experienced a lot of worry and 37 percent said they had experienced significant stress. Both figures were two percentages points higher than in the survey conducted in 2016.

More people also said they had felt physical pain (31 percent), an increase of 1 percent over 2016. Sadness also rose slightly to 23 percent.

The only negative emotion that stayed unchanged was anger (20 percent).

I just watched the Star Trek: Voyager episode "Critical Care".  I enjoyed the discussion of medical ethics that took place between "the doctor" and the other medical staff in the episode.

Disappointed with VLC's ability to stream video to my Chromecast. Audio is fine. Video is laggy and stutters on DVDs, and MP4s just displays a series of stills.

(ETA: AVI is okay. Don't know about Matroska. Unfortunately the videos I want to play are from Youtube so they're all MP4 or FLV. I don't atm have a bulk converter.)

Listening to Christmas music.

My gf sometimes asks me: which pants are those? Or which socks are those? Regarding The clothes i am wearing.

Apparently answers like Frank and Thomas aren't correct answers.

They are socks :p what do you want me to say?

RE: Random Thoughts
I just finished working an exercise in my abstract algebra book that ultimately required me to make use of a main theorem in the section I was studying (namely homomorphisms and normal subgroups) along with a corollary from a preceding chapter on normal subgroups and a main theorem in the chapter on homomorphisms.  It felt good to harmonize mathematical ideas in order to achieve the goal of the proof.  Having completed that exercise along with a few more in that chapter, I'm finished studying groups: I have gained an elementary understanding of the material, which was my goal; I have also gained a great appreciation for the material.   Thus,  it is time to move on to rings and just give myself a basic understanding.  I'm looking forward to beginning this topic tomorrow.
