I got into an argument online over the Israeli/Palestinian conflict (yes a powder keg ) but I wanted to know why he was so against the Palestinians. For my own part, I support the Palestinians in the sense they are mistreated by Isreal while I accept that they have issues of their own that need to be addressed. Though I never got to respond because he blocked me after telling me his reasons. I still thought it was worth addressing.

His first big issue was the fact they named a store after Hitler. Which proves they are hateful And tried using this picture to back this.


My first problem with this is firstly it's an incomplete quote. Here is the whole quote.

"The name of the shop is 'Hitler' and I like him because he was the the most anti Jewish person. They have done us wrong, they took our rights in this land and they left us with nothing. It is better for us now to go and die, we are living like the dead. I like the clothes and the name, it is fantastic," said 20 year old Hijaz Abu Shanab.

While there are some chilling sediments in this statement. I will say he's not completely wrong. He's wrong in the sense that it wasn't the Jews that did this it's Isreal so he places the blame too broad too which Isreal can be partially blamed due to its pretension to speak for the Jews. But one thing that stands out what does this person know about Hitler or what's meant by his "Anti-Jewish" ideas or what it entails, And does this person or those who think as he does justify the mistreatment of a whole population.


Another objection was their support for Hitler during WW2. Missing the fact that lots of countries sided with the AXIS powers and some sided with the allies who would not regard now as good now. So this point is moot. 

His final point was that the Palestinians support terrorism. Setting aside the list of Jewish terrorist groups who also hate the idea of peace. I also dislike Hamas and think they are dangerous. But the Election of them and support for them mainly come from their domestic policies rather than their position on Isreal and as long as the other parties fail in this regard they will continue to be popular.

So overall I found his reasoning poor but thought it was a good list of ideas to reflect on.
