Weird thing happened today that gave me shivers up my spine, and not in a good way.
On my last vacation with the family at age 16, my dad had bought the 8-track tape of Donna Fargo that featured her hit single at time - I'm The Happiest Girl in the Whole USA. If you've never heard it...be thankful. It's bad. Well we left Eastern Iowa for a drive to the Outer Banks if NC, a roughly 1300 mile trip. Dad put that tape in and let it play over and over again the entire trip there and most of the trip home. It made the rest of us crazy and I don't think dad ever listened to it again after that trip. My sister and I bring it up now and then as a bizarre family memory and how we three kids got to the point that we would sway back and forth in unison and sing it when it came around. That was an unusual bonding moment in our family.
My cell phone spam filter is set pretty tight. This morning I got a chime that I had a voice mail from an unknown caller...pretty unusual.
So I gave it a listen. It was the chorus of that damned song and some creepy, evil laugh at the end. Very, very weird. Dad's been gone 13 years and it didn't sound like my brother or my sister's SO laughing, so I have no idea who called and played that particular song.
I might not sleep tonight.
