Random Thoughts
RE: Random Thoughts
^I like watching the Facebook local pages for all the broken stuff people are trying to sell...not give away...sell.
As in, here's TV that had splotches on the screen so we got a new one. Doesn't have a remote or a power cord. $50.00 cash only.

The other day I wondered at someone who asked for a small tutu and wing set. There was an almost immediate response of "I have one but won't be home till later tonight."

How random and weird. It's kind of entertaining.

* There is a lady one town over who is constantly buying the wrong ink cartridges for her printer. They happen to fit my printer. Yeah, I will drive about five miles for printer ink that's brand new sealed in the box. She has saved me a couple hundred dollars in the last year.

I believe Halloween should be a paid holiday, not Easter.

Is Easter a paid holiday in the US? It is here (Easter Monday). If you’re required to work that day, you can either take another day off with pay or opt to get paid double. Same with the other ten public holidays.

I get Easter Sunday off just like every other Sunday.

Whether or not anyone gets a particular holiday off, paid or not, is at the whim of the employer. There are no federally mandated days off, paid or otherwise.

^Here in the states there are Federal Holidays when they typically don't deliver mail and the banks are closed but there is nothing that says an employer has to give those days off.

Where I work we actually have six paid holidays a year. I have worked in places that are more tied to banking so there were usually more holidays with those companies.

It varies a lot from state to state and employer to employer; often depending on where the company is headquartered and what sort of work they do.

That’s kind of startling. Here, an employee can get into a world of trouble for not giving workers their time off (or making accommodations as mentioned above).

They get around that here by not having to give you time off at all (federally).

Wait til you hear about our federally mandated sick leave and vacation (there isn't any).

RE: Random Thoughts
When I first went back to work after being a stay at home mom, I got a big surprise regarding holidays. I was in South Carolina and my first day of work had always been a holiday for me in other states. It was Memorial Day. I asked if they didn't mean Tuesday because of Memorial Day being on Monday and was told that in the south they don't recognize 'that' Memorial Day. Bit of a culture shock, but okay.

Wow. Here, it’s four weeks holiday, 26 weeks parental leave, three days (minimum) bereavement leave, 10 days sick leave, all in addition to the public holidays.

None of that commie shit is required here. At a federal level, one's employer isn't even required to provide rest or meal breaks.

I happen to work for a decent employer who does provide most of that, but a hell of a lot of workers don't. I'm also fortunate enough to have my US domicile in a state where at least paid sick leave is mandated by law.
