Quote:Bees play by rolling wooden balls — apparently for fun. The cleaner wrasse fish appears to recognize its own visage in an underwater mirror. Octopuses seem to react to anesthetic drugs and will avoid settings where they likely experienced past pain.

All three of these discoveries came in the last five years — indications that the more scientists test animals, the more they find that many species may have inner lives and be sentient. A surprising range of creatures have shown evidence of conscious thought or experience, including insects, fish and some crustaceans.

Take, for example, the mirror-mark test, which scientists sometimes use to see if an animal recognizes itself.

In a series of studies, the cleaner wrasse fish seemed to pass the test.

The fish were placed in a tank with a covered mirror, to which they exhibited no unusual reaction. But after the cover was lifted, seven of 10 fish launched attacks toward the mirror, signaling they likely interpreted the image as a rival fish.

After several days, the fish settled down and tried odd behaviors in front of the mirror, like swimming upside down, which had not been observed in the species before. Later, some appeared to spend an unusual amount of time in front of the mirror, examining their bodies. Researchers then marked the fish with a brown splotch under the skin, intended to resemble a parasite. Some fish tried to rub the mark off.

I can understand the need for evidence backed by empiricism, but even conservative scientists can be stupid as F.

They're buzzing around with life, but they're not sentient?

Silly scientists.

Tried to find new lids for a couple of Yeti tumblers I have that seem to be wearing out on the seals. Tried Amazon and found generic - they may or may not work - lids.

Did a search and found out that Tractor Supply carries them...who knew? Went and got two.

Came out of the market and found a Chick Tracts booklet on my windshield. It said that I'm already dead without jesus. The way I understand it I've got a consequence free life now.

Lots of antisemitic attitude sweeping across the nation. College campuses in particular. Because, obviously, Jewish students attending college in America have full control over the Israeli government.

How come these same people never protest christian events, houses of worship, and other christian assemblies because of the crusades?

People who drink black coffee are often sociopaths. People who drink half-caff  double tall cappuccino with almond milk, extra foam, and just the dashiest dash of nutmeg are often their victims.

As I was arriving to work the other day, I saw a vehicle ahead of us pull into the parking lot. It sported several bumper stickers, but one word stood out for me. Atheism. Unfortunately, I could not read the entire thing, so I have no idea if it was for or against atheism. But there was also the christian fish symbol there, so an educated guess is that it was likely stating something untrue about atheism. No idea if the vehicle belonged to an employee or visitor, but I'll keep an eye out.
