Let's assume that there's been at least one case of an employee not being given accommodation for their non-religious beliefs. Why should they be treated differently in law to a religious person?
I care about social equity, consistency in law, discrimination, and the demise of religion in society. But my personal concerns are irrelevant to the political and legal issue here.
Company dress codes are not law. If an employee is told to take off [whatever], they can see redress in the courts.
Let’s assume that there’s been at least one case of an employee told to remove a non-religious pin or pendant, sued the company for the right to do so and won. This would mean that they already ARE protected by law (there have been similar cases, such as atheist flags being flown alongside religious one, or state houses being ordered to remove Ten Commandments monuments).
It seems to me that consistency in law is safe, at least for now.

Agreed. If in your nation non-religious beliefs and practices were protected the same as religious beliefs and practices then they would be ... legally protected.
But I underwent training regarding UK employment law and protected characteristics recently (hence this thread), where it seemed that UK law only protects religious beliefs and practices not personal, philosophical or political. That to me seemed unfair.
Would you agree, that if the law of a nation singled out religious beliefs and practices as recieving special protection but not other ideological beliefs (ethical, political, etc), then that would be unfair and 'not good' ?

It's because religious beliefs aren't any kind of threat. If they were, they wouldn't be protected either.

That's odd reasoning. You see veganism as more of a threat than Islam?

What does veganism have to do with belief? It's a diet choice.

Kosher and halal are diet choices also.
Veganism is often based on sincerely held ethical beliefs.
The other two on sincerely held religious beliefs.
Why should diet choices derived from religious beliefs be given legal protections but diet choices derived from ethical beliefs not? It makes no sense. It is not consistent nor fair. It is not conducive to weening society away from religion. It is bad law.

I suspect religious beliefs are protected for the combination of evidence-free, dogmatically based nature of the beliefs and that they are instilled through indoctrination of children. It's sort of a reverse recognition of the exploitation of children's vulnerability in exposing them to these kinds of beliefs.

Lol......because, religious beliefs are a codified set of tenets, while ethical beliefs are just personal opinions. You think the people in charge want to ween society away from religion? Not sure why you would think that, because it isn't true at all.
