I suppose we can add ‘how governments work’ to list of things Musk doesn’t know.

Money can't buy insight. I think he's trying to transition into governance because his businesses are struggling and he wants to tilt the table.

It's not unusual for rich people to look for political power. Directly or indirectly, particularly if their businesses are crucial to politics, like controlling world wide communication and spread of information.

I would be wondering if Musk would NOT have gone into politics one day.

Calling somebody stupid isn't underestimating them (in fact in cases like Galaxy Brain and T****y, pretending they're not is itself a form of underestimation, as you're lulling yourself into the idea that they've enough brains to be rational), it's by thinking that they'll be reasonable, do the right thing or "turn presidential" where the problems will occur. Overestimating their intelligence or capability to do anything constructive for their goals (what goals do they really have other than self enrichment though?) is as bad a mistake as the one that lead the British and French to go into the Sudetenland crisis thinking that Germany was far ahead of them militarily when it was, in fact, significantly behind, Hitler was bluffing at Munich.

Oh and in his first term T****y was an extremely ineffectual president, except in cases where his lack of willingness to put in any effort hurt others. Oh, and ye are where ye are now because ye've a constitutionally mandated electoral system that is so full of holes and so lacking in corrections that in the majority of states it's either as bad as or worse than Russia's.

To be clear, I’m not taking a stance on H-1B here. It seems like there should be good uses for this visa, but it certainly can be abused.

Musk probably makes some legitimate use of H1-B  but he definitely abuses it. It's a tyrant's dream to have employees who know they will be deported if they are fired. He's got them by the balls.

I don't know where Trump stands on this. He has admitted to using H1-B himself. MAGAts definitely oppose it because as Musk points out, they are contemptible, racist fools. Trump and Musk are simply contemptable racists. They'll happily employ brown people when it benefits them and then dispose of them when they are finished with them.

I think that T****y tends to abuse the H-2B system far more than the H-1B system. Most of his employees are in low-skilled service jobs.

I said "Musk isn't stupid", not "Musk isn't irrational." I'm not lulling myself into anything.

I take it this opinion of yours is supported by your personal interactions with him.

There’s plenty of reasons to despise Elon Musk without calling him - all evidence to the contrary - ‘stupid’.
