I've never had a Twitter account. My FB has lain dormant for years. I don't engage in the TwitterMetaVerse, just the same as I don't let the homeless guy at the train station come up to me and yell in my face.

Same here - I can’t boycott something I’ve never used.

I had an old mate who was livid over elephant poaching and swore to boycott ivory. I asked him, ‘Donal, when was the last time you bought something made of ivory?’.  It took him a few seconds, but the light of recognition was a sight to behold.

Over 60 German and Austrian universities, the German Federal Court of Justice and multiple top German football clubs have announced that they will be withdrawing from Twitter (X), due to US oligarch Elon Musk's "discussion" (collaboration) with Germany's neo-Nazi party (AfD) Alice Weidl.

This is something that all people with morals should be doing. Boycott this crap and let the fascists stew in their juices.

If only boycotts worked at any level beyond the local. Or hinged on the premise that opposition could make Elon do ANYTHING other than just dig his heels in further.

Though I wouldn't call it desertion, per se, I can certainly see them dropping the platform like a hot rock. Not sure why a government institution would use something like "X". I guess I should go look to see if my old company has a presence there.

For $8 a month, it's a relatively cheap form of promotion.

Turns out my old company has all kinds of advertising on X. I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Our Government Institutions are desperatly trying to find new employees, thats why they are present in X, Facebook, TikTok, Instagram and the like. They pay redicoulous amounts of money to private advisors maintaining theese accounts and hope to get someone interested to work in a government job / Army.
There has been numbers presented by the government that 60% of all employees are over 55 now and have to be replaced in the next 10 yrs !
Problem : They pay peanuts - and will get monkeys only. Everyone who has a solid education and skills works in the private buisiness sector, where the payment is double to triple of that what the governnment offers. Plus...All government jobs are " dead end" that means not much of a chance to get a promotion !

I don't expect my personal boycott to effect any change in others' abhorrent behavior. I expect them to remove my participation in something I find abhorrent, and in that regard they've worked swimmingly.

I think I have popped over to Twitter/X twice and that was enough for me. I don't even recall my sign in. Reddit confuses me...I just cannot get into it.

The only reason I keep Facebook is to keep up with people I know IRL - and see pics of the grandkids and such.

Recently, someone I knew from way back got in touch on Messenger and we had a nice chat. But I have noticed my feed now being full of crap I have no interest in. I spend more time hiding things than I do actually reading things.
