I didn't say it was overused. I'm not against it because it's over-used. I'm against it, generally, because it's irrevocable, meaning that wrongful convictions cannot be corrected meaningfully. That's a different kettle of fish.

I have my wishy-washies when it comes  to murder for hire or murder during child-molestation; but those are emotional and not rational objections, and not a sound basis in law.

I'm glad that's not my decision, too.

Wasn't suggesting you'd called it over used.  Though that's a common thing I've heard on the subject.

Mind you, I was several bourbon's in last night.  I'm surprised I could form complete sentences.

Working in the places I have, I've met several people who absolute deserve to die, and have several friends who have been injured by their violence and the ineptitude of the powers that be.

That said, if they can prove simply that they'll not be a hazard to others, I'm ok with indefinite housing.

Nebraska has a fine example of "should just be old yeller'd" :

I worked with one of his violent "trainees".  Absolutely nightmare people.  Beyond my ability to describe.

Maybe we could just wall off NYC, put them all in there and let them fend for themselves.

Yeah, but then we'll have to send Snake to rescue the President

Nope, they all knew it was a no fly zone. Should not rescue stupid.

Fuck, I might be in trouble. Lalala

Snake Plissken? I thought he was dead.

Eager? No.

Willing? Depends.

One doesn't enlist without considering the possibility of taking a life for "GodxCountry" or some such bullshit.  Maybe for some corporation's profits?  Either way, glad I never did.

For my daughter, my wife, "him (most likely) or me"?  Absolutely.

I carry a gun often, and am in a hurry to never use it.

- Worked with a guy who raped his own children.  Left an entire generation a broken mess.  The world is absolutely a better place without him.  I enjoyed volunteering for "Hospital duty" for him, which basically amounted to a staff staying outside his room as he was a criminal inductee and required a staff presence at the hospital.  He was never violent.  A tiny little man of 5'2 or something.
Volunteered one day to learn that he'd succumbed to Covid before he could spend the rest of his life in Prison.  Sometimes the universe provides.
