Yeah, grandads are phenomenal liars. I once asked mine where the wind came from, and he told me, 'The Earth spins around and makes a breeze.'

Your brother was formerly your dad??

I can't stand a short stay in a hospital. The idea of being in a nursing home for any length of time makes me twitchy. If able, I would have to find a way out before that happens.

The morning after I had my heart attack, the doctor came into my room in the ICU and I asked when I could go home. It had only been a few hours and I was over it. I allowed him to keep me there overnight. I arrived at the hospital about two in the morning on a Monday and was on my way home before noon on Wednesday. The nurse had to find someone to show her how to discharge me to home. She had only moved people from ICU to a regular room.

The concept of 'living' in a care facility is just not one I can wrap my head around.

Little known fact: I voluntarily spent a short time in a psych ward. I was restless, could not stand the detainment. I can imagine myself feeling the same if I was in a nursing home.

That’s a relief. I was trying to work out a complicated interplay of genetic engineering and adoptions. Gave me a thundering brain ache.

I feel that. I spent some time involuntarily in one.

I spent 7 months in a nursing home. It didn't suck. But I was ambulatory.

I hope to avoid it.

I've spent months over the years in such places, I spent a lot of my pacing the halls.

I haven't thought about the specifics of an exit plan but I don't intend to die in a nursing home.

It's not the best way to use up a life's saving.
