Who's God did this?!?

Ain't he nice?

God has no excuse for anything horrific that happens. If he designed and created everything with limitless knowledge that he has, then he takes full blame.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

That being the case - do you believe that your god allowed your child to have this affliction?????
Thanks CC. It's not something you recover from, more something you're born with. Luckily it hasn't developed like it could in my boy so far.

It's something in his genes which is mostly dormant, and no one else in my family has symptoms that I'm aware of. There is a lack of specialists, but we have had infrequent checks and as he gets older the chance he will be badly affected lessen. The hard growths can occur all over the body, in the spine causing irregular curvature, and in the eyes causing blindness.

God created this beautiful reality and everyone gets what they're dealt. All kids are different, and all of them are great. I'm grateful my boy is an amazing person in his own right.. loving, generous and kind.

The christians I've known don't have nearly the realistic perspective you have on these matters. Good luck to you and your son.

Medical science is the only hope - not hocus pocus. Too bad for Jose Mestre. His mother brainwashed him good. He could have had medical help for his face decades ago. So very stupid. Their preacher probably condoned his mothers actions too - and if he did he should be horse whipped!

My beliefs are that science and religion go hand in hand Nap. God gave us scientists and medical discoveries to use.
We took medical advice straight away. Luckily someone spotted it very early on and we push for help and are lucky enough to have medical professionals who have helped push too.
Those examples are of people without access to medical care that could have prevented those extreme disfigurements. The type of religious person that denies medical treatment is more like witchcraft in my mind. I have no understanding of that kind of thing.
I have JW friends. They explained their reasoning for not accepting transplants. Totally spurious in my mind.
I'm trying to think of something I do have moral ideas on... say abortion (I think abortion is killing after conception)... I don't think I have the right to tell anyone what to do with their body. Say I was the woman... I'd be swayed by a lot of things and make a decision given information received... I would hope I could go either way in the final decision.

hmm interesting post.
so in regards to your final point are you saying that you are against abortion, yet would allow a woman to do so if that was her wish?
do you not think that if it is wrong and you believe it to be killing full stop then you should be outraged by a woman making such a choice?
maybe i've misunderstood your post but that's the flaw in logic i see.

either way i can see where you're coming from

Thanks Nap.

Yeah I don't ever think I have the right to tell anyone else how to think. Last time I checked my God like abilities hadn't quite developed. I can't know their reasoning. Sure I have my opinion if asked... but them ain't your rules Wink

I was fishing?!

Pfft ...I don't know. God made nature right and nature is good with bad - stuff eats stuff.... things die, things thrive... all together I see it as awe inspiring. Gods creation I equate with nature. See that spore that attaches to ants and grows a mushroom out of them? Loads of truly horrific things in nature.

What I don't see is a supposed fairy tale dream of endless happiness as being good. I'm more than happy with this reality, and I think we all have to accept this is what we have. With our creature comforts all we seem to have gained is another process by which we destroy ourselves.

Did that make sense?

Thought not... :S

[PS I've just been reading Saerules' Bio - my mind may have been affected!]
