Time to pierce the veil. Opening up more fossil fuel in the us has absolutely nothing to do with the domestic market. Peak demand in the us has already come and gone - there are, ofc, people who argue that we may yet see spikes for the next few years. Ironically, the us producing more ff is a cornerstone of our idea of what global decarbonization looks like in practice. Where our allies that have been traditionally dependent on..lets say..adversarial regimes....will purchase more of our relatively cleaner (and higher quality) ff instead.

According to him and his team, repeatedly, including just this morning, he's going to deliver on mass deportations and drill baby drilling on day 1.  One is already done so it's an easy cakewalk to taking credit, and the other succeeds in the attempt itself.  I'm sure he can manage both those things.

Might also help to know that the last time we got up to something we were willing to openly call a mass deportation like that was a good thing we rounded up a million and a half american citizens and deported them. Not that legal status matters to the donald..as he and vance have both expressly stated that they'll be deporting legal immigrants as well.

Immigrant legal status is pretty much interchangeable with skin tone, and I doubt anyone expects ice to set up a checkpoint in gated communities asking The Whites for their citizenship papers...or listening to brown americans explain that they don't have their very american birth certificates on their person at that very moment.

I'm starting to think about it. I really don't want to go into total despair. I'm 65 and not in the greatest health. I have made a lot of health gains in the last year but that's only been possible because of a positive attitude. I have had to modify my diet, lose a lot of weight (with plenty more left to lose) and get alcohol use under control. I'm afraid if Trump wins, I'm going to lose all my motivation to keep going.

I know there are a lot of seniors here and despair could probably physically harm you too. If the worst happens, we really need to deal with it. I'm beginning to steel myself against it in advance. At least it won't be a shock like it was in 2016.

The price of democracy is that you can't always get your own way. Accepting this is what sets me apart from people like Trump, and his supporters who have to create conspiracy theories to explain a lost election, and use violence to challenge the peaceful transfer of power.

Well of course I never meant to suggest Trump was a normal part of the process, merely that elections not going your way was. His nefarious contempt for democracy doesn't change the fact he was legally elected, as depressing as this is. I had to watch the Brexit referendum slip passed by a very narrow margin, after a raft of lies and rhetoric from some of the Brexiteers. I had to watch Nigel Farage elected as an MP. None of that is "normal", but in a democratic system, sometimes things don't go the way you want, that was all I meant.
