Maximum CPU temperature?
April 10, 2025 at 2:39 pm
I have just upgraded my PC, (it was old and getting sluggish - like me!) now running a Ryzen 5 7500F
in normal use it's getting to around 58C but on load it goes up to 95 - 98C is this ok or do I need to look for a better cooler?

Maximum temperature is rated at 95C. I would think either your cooler is insufficient or it's not properly installed.

Check your cooler installation. Be sure, thermal paste is properly applied.

I didn't install the cooler, bought motherboard, cpu, cooler and ram pre installed by a normally good local company, not a big job to take the cooler off and check it (AMD Wraith Stealth)

Remember, if it starts smoking it's just trying to act cool.

Apart from the thermal issues, everything seems to be working well, new thermal paste on order, I don't want to disturb things until it arrives

(if it does make an improvement I will be having strong words with the suppliers!)

Air flow problems in the case as well as proximity to significant sources of heat can play a role as well (GPU). Is this air-cooled or liquid-cooled?

Do you notice any change in the fan speed as the CPU heats up? Have you verified that it and other fans are spinning?

Just done some tweaks in the bios, mainly "precision boost overdrive" changed from auto to level2 and cpu boost clock override to negative.
temps under load are now a more reasonable 82C, performance seems unaffected. (looking at youtube videos the Ryzen cpu's all seem to run hot)
