RE: AI for president
I tried to play chess with Ai, llama 4, which is on WhatsApp i think it's associated with meta.

I told it I was setting up a game between it and an actual chess engine which it admitted it would lose because it's not a dedicated chess engine and I did expect that would be the case.

It did pretty well but then it just started to forget where it's own pieces were. Which really confused me because even though I expected it to lose I didn't expect it to forget/not know where pieces are.

I've had long conversations with ai and used it for art its impressife but at this stage it still gets confused with some very simple stuff.

It could be useful maybe to govern specific things like finance and have it dedicated to spotting signs of corruption/waste. If you create it specifically for that. I don't know much about ai but I could imagine that kind of thing might be useful. Even then it depends what it's been told to look for and what it's been told the best outcomes will be.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

Yep, present-day AI - the ChatGPT style ones - are only language models. They give you a series of words that make sense within its training.
That's why it forgets the chess pieces location. That's why it still sucks.

With decent training, a general-AI (something that doesn't exist yet) could be much better than most rulers we have today...than most we've had in the whole of History.

I don't think anyone alive today will live to see machine intelligence that could actually do a good job mimicking true human level actions. It'll take artificial sapience, and were a long, long way from than.

I can't see how an AI presidency would fail to lead to an AI legislature and an AI judiciary, effectively ending even the semblance of democracy.

Why is an oligarchy of machines better than an oligarchy of billionaires?

I think the idea is to prevent corruption. Ai doesn't have friends it wants to help, business interests to go after, Monica Lewinkis to seduce. It just does what you program it to do.
The only downsides would be whatever downsides it's programmed with.
It's not even doable now anyway and even if it was I don't think it would be like having the terminator as president, like one ai personality, it would just be a machine to organise and bring order to mounds and mounds of paperwork/admin.
I'm sure some government organisations are already using ai to detect fraud, terrorism and whatever else.

I’m all for preventing corruption, but how do you ensure that human creators of AI are not themselves corrupt? GIGO.

I'm sure human creators would be corrupt, I'm guessing what you would do is create some foundational things for the ai to search for and have that overseeing any government and keep them the same.
Like Americans have amendments, make foundational algorithms.
It could look into nepotism, has this person hired a family member, are they being paid excessively, is the job legitimate and useful. Look into all of their financial records quickly and efficiently and be able to spot discrepancies.

Again, how could you ensure that corrupt creators wouldn’t create AI that would benefit themselves (the creators)? Corrupt people create corrupt systems.

Furthermore, would it even be possible to hack proof the AI? Even if the system was initially set up by honest programmers with the best of intentions, it seems like a tempting target for malware and viruses.

Like I said you just make it so the ai governs with the same rules for any government organisations and keep it simple.

If the programmers had a bias towards one political party it wouldn't benefit them because it would oversee all political parties equally.

The risk of there still being some biases implemented in all this is going to always be there but I don't see it as being an impossible task to make fairly straight forward rules.

I have no idea how you'd prevent hackers you probably can't. We use computers, online devices and ai to a large extent already in defence and health care and I'm sure it will be and has already been hacked with varying consequences.

Just to clarify I'm not talking about an ai president, I can just imagine that it's possible ai could be used to oversee government organisations in some ways. The topic is an ai president that's about as close as I can get to imagining it happening.
