I Can't be the Only One here Electrified by Artemis 2

I Can't be the Only One here Electrified by Artemis 2
I'm surprised no one else has commented on this yet. We have humans on their way to the moon! Artemis 2 successfully accomplished their translunar injection burn several hours ago that sent them on their way. This is the first time in over 53 years that humans have left Earth orbit. The time gap is not unprecedented. It was over 80 years between the first landing at Antarctica and the establishments of a base there.

I understand that this is an atheist forum, not a space geek forum. Still, there has to be others here who feel like I do. I feel like this is a historical event that I'm grateful to have lived to see. I was 9-years-old the first time people orbited the moon in Apollo 8. Now we are finally going back to stay. I just wished it had happened before I was in my twilight years.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

I'm pretty excited for it.

I am surprised by the lack of coverage in the media. I know that this mission won't be landing on the surface, but it's still huge.

I'd be more interested if I thought this would last longer than the next round of budget-cuts which will once again see NASA going hat-in-hand for funding.

My prediction is that the next human walking on the Moon will be Chinese, not American, for that matter.

I'm not too excited, but I'm not against it. The thing is, they spent a lot of money and CO2 just to see the Moon from above. Needless to say, I'd be much more excited if this money went toward the sample return mission from Mars, which I believe would be a game-changing mission that would exponentially expand human knowledge. Or if the money went to robot exploring caves on Mars or robot exploring surface of Venus.

When it comes to landing on the moon itself, that won't happen at least until 2028, and that is very questionable since they are still counting on Elon Musk's Starship as a component to achieve that, which won't happen. Maybe they changed the plan in the meantime, but you see how it all looks rather unserious.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

A robot exploring the surface of Venus had better be pretty damned robust. 900F is pretty hard on electrical components of any sort.

I'm kind of *meh* about the whole thing.

I'm much more concerned about my country going down the shitter than I am about my country going up to the Moon.

I don’t object to space programmes, per se. I don’t even object to establishing research facilities on other planets/moons, but the notion that this is some sort of precursor to large-scale habitation of other bodies in the solar system strikes me as wishful thinking.
