Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity. Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist. You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them. 
The thing that is troublesome is how so many of them seem to want to gloat over their fellow humans being tortured forever in hell by their all-good, loving god.

They do seem to have a constant need to pretend that their superstitions make them superior, don't they?
And of course they conveniently forget or explain away that their all-good, all-loving god created hell in the first place.

After all, it is the belief that you have interpreted the will of a higher power correctly. Religions couldn't dictate their rules upon humanity without stating they were 100% correct.

There's plenty of room for uncertainty and questioning in Christianity, the other theisms, I'm not so sure of.
