Christians donate more than atheists

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Relief officials inundated with donations after the flurry of twisters that killed more than 300 people across the South are sorting through the broken toys and used underwear they don't need while hunting for places to store mountains of vital supplies like canned food.

Across Alabama, agencies are still encouraging people to send items like cleaning supplies for people clearing debris from tornado-damaged homes, or cash donations that can be used to cover operating expenses or handed out to victims. But with storage space scarce, most say they can't handle any more used toys or cast-off clothing.

"That becomes the disaster within the disaster," said Salvation Army spokesman Mark Jones. "When people make those mass donations ... it causes the community to be overrun with them and have to deal with that in addition to the storm damage."

In a dimly lit warehouse in Tuscaloosa, for instance, donated toys are piled 6 feet high as volunteers sort through hundreds of bags of old clothes. A 3-foot-tall plastic Santa Claus looks over the operation; volunteers say it came in with a load of contributions.

Personally, I don't donate to religious charities. I was leaving Winn-Dixie the other day & was going to donate to the guy set up outside the store but then I saw a verse / chapter out of the Bible & kept walking.

I average 20 hours a week volunteering at the Endangered Wolf Center, as a doscent helping people understand why we need to preserve the wolves, and as a shovel jockey, etc. I donated 200+ handmade leather trinkets to the Gift Shop, 100% of the sales of those items goes to support the canids there. I bought all the materials needed to create a couple of signs they needed, they're in my dining room ready to paint and assemble.

You're turn, Xtians.

I think people were just using the disaster relief as an excuse to finally clean out the garage and get rid of the crap they'd normally have to pay the dump to take. Used underwear? Ick.

But then again, they were donating to people in Alabama. They probably thought that they were all rednecks down there who like having a yard full of broken crap. Remember, you know you're a redneck if you come back from the dump with more stuff than you took. Or at the very least they knew that they'd want a gaudy 3-foot-tall Santa decoration to keep on their house year-round.

Neither do I,although I give to secular charities through monthly pledge. I do not give to massive disaster relief appeals; I don't trust them.

If you want to be shocked, look up a few major charities ,religious and secular, and have a look at the percentages which go to costs.

RE: Christians donate more than atheists
Im tired of hearing "Christians donate more than atheists"

When I donate, I donate on the fly, spontaneously, seriously, intuitively, and annonymously most of the time...usually with cash

I NEVER claim my donations on my taxes...I consider it to be personally rude to do such a thing. A donation is a personal sacrifice in my opinion.

NOW, with that said, how is it that xians have proof they donate more than us? They claim them on their taxes. Nothing more than tax shelter rip offs.

I wonder how much of this junk was a tax right off?

2 Billion of them and maybe 2 of us. Yep. Makes sense.
