sure... I'm the opposite style RPG'r. I grew up playing tabletop and PnP DnD and I enjoy unraveling the story and plots, figuring out puzzles, traps sneaking, hack and slash. Everything except the social aspect. Maybe be social with 2-5 close friends that I know from outside the game, so we can strategize over some drinks. But random stranger.. most of whom are 13-16 pubescent, immature ,nerdy children... no thanks (present company excluded of course ).
edit: I really want to be home playing right now and I'm thinking of skipping out of work.

I swear that half of the people I've met in Rift have children. I might be blessed in that I haven't met anyone particularly immature in Rift thus far. And out of the 50-60ish dungeons I have run thus far I have met only 1 person that said anything to the effect of 'Gogogogogo'.
One hell sight better than the crowd what plays WoW
I've a boyfriend who's just like you about blasted Soloing in an MMO, he even had 7 85s in WoW and 3 characters well on their way there. He took even himself by surprise by dropping it cold turkey once he started playing Rift
The jerk even started after I did and was still at least a week ahead of me to 50 -_-

Was it teh slow level progression that stalled you? For me that's more realism, IMO.

I was intrigued, until someone told me it had difficult character progression, especially for those unfamiliar with D&D. Which means I've never played D&D before.

No. Lack of time & other more interesting games did. It's a good game, just low on my list of things to do.

I'd think it'd only be difficult if you have poor reading comprehension & are bad at basic math.

It's no elder scrolls as far as realism go, but I think it's a good combination of realism, AI and hack/slash . Slow compared to WOW, but normal by most standards. Wow is a bastardized genre money making pit. The geeks that be keep it around because it pulls in more people to the genre, but I don't think any serious RPG would claim that WOW is the extend or preference of their hobby.
@Jax- Almost every RPG game is some combination of MUD story plot or DND. You don't have to have played DnD to enjoy it.

Agreed.
It is however, a decent RPG. Not much of an MMO (You have maybe a 5% of ever seeing someone you group with via X-server dungeon finder)... but between (fucking) phasing and having a bazillion and a half places to level until outlands: it is a very attractive game for soloing.
Seriously... the one thing I cannot fault WoW on is its solo content. I simply don't play MMOs to solo, and despise questing unless its a group affair.
It's a great feeling to be struggling on a quest solo, then to have someone join your public group and ask if you're on that quest too Did I mention I love Rift? Oh... maybe I did... I love Rift

"that crowd" of geek that plays tabletop.. usually still plays as it's far more adaptable and creative of a platform than video games. Those that don't have the time or dedication (like myself) play the most realistic RPG's or one's with great plot arcs and quests. The rpg'er that prefer easy controls, and focus on the hack/slash and the game interface.. typically spend just as uch time playing FPS (or originated from), IMO.
