This is tough. I might need you to clarify for me. Do these books have to be books that I actually think will change the world, or can they be books that I wish would change the world?

Strictly speaking, books that have changed the world. Or at the very least had a significant impact on it. However we do not wish to restrict it. Whatever you feel justifiably belongs in there. If it would help, think of it in terms of what everyone should read at least once in their life. You know those reading lists you had when you were at school - it might be different in America. Well just imagine it like that. Except this one is for adults. Hope this helps !

The Odyssey
The Republic
De Bello Gallico
The Aeneid
The Origin Of Species
The Divine Comedy
The Communist Manifesto
Man's Search For meaning
[Fucking] Bible
[Fucking] Koran
The Time Machine
The Lord of the Rings
By the way, twocompulsive, those reading lists in high school-they're made by adults, for adults.

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee (This one because it shows the far reaching implications of going against societal norms out of kindness.)
We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver (This one is because I think today's society puts a lot of pressure on parents to be perfect, when the reality is that some kids are just fucking impossible.)
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck (This one because some things are just too fucked to be looked at in black and white terms.)
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury (This one has so many morals and is so insightful that I can't think of one reason for it not to land on a list like this.)
I could probably think of a few more, but I'm getting sucked away from work at the moment.
