They will try him. They will convict him.

Most likely, they'll determine he has a "mental disorder". Did you know that one cannot refuse treatment in the Scandinavian countries?

They will keep him forever in various types of custody situations, shuffling him from one point to another.

Just because they don't have an explicit life sentence doesn't mean they can't make a de facto life sentence.

They're going to treat him like a criminal and mentally ill person and prevent his societal reintegration through continued "hospitalization" and keep him in custody for life.

I agree, he should never walk free again. Until now I wasn't aware that Norway could insure that happens, other than giving a life sentence that they don't actually have on the books.

That's scary come to think of it. A de facto life sentence due to a diagnosis of a mental disorder and involuntary mandatory treatment potentially forever.

There are some States here that are committing to such an action as that, when it comes to accused sex offenders. After they finish their sentence they're deemed mentally unfit as a danger to themselves and society. In which case they can be sentenced to a prison psychiatric facility for an indeterminate amount of time, until Doctors determine they're no longer a threat. Which, without chemical castration or some other intervention, either voluntary as in medicines, or involuntary as in surgical castration, isn't at all likely considering it's an impulse due to what's deemed abnormal sexual orientation.

It's a big conflict here between civil rights groups and others. What you mentioned about Norway led me to think of it. And here the press today was remarking how Norwegians, when polled and asked if they'd rather the laws be amended to provide an option of life sentence or even a death penalty, the majority polled said no. They'd rather keep their traditions in tact. While there was never mention of the steps that can be applied to insure that de facto life sentence.

Just heard the news and Brevik has appeared in court, behind closed doors, has admitted the crimes but claims he should not be punished for them!
I await with interest his reasoning as to why.
