I'm not eating. YAY!

RE: I'm not eating. YAY!
My friend said it was the hardest when Ramadan happened during the summer months, since the sun just about refuses to set here. In winter it's dark for the most of the day, so one just might to have to skip lunch, but nothing else Big Grin
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

I don't do that, but there are Muslims who do stuff their faces during the breaking of the fast (called "Iftar"), which is not a good thing.

The healthier way to eat is to start with a water (or a juice like Tang or lemonade) and small fruits and dates before eating anything else. The reason for this is to put fluid into the body first since that is what our bodies need the most. Then, we are supposed to eat a light meal and not something too heavy because the digestion system has been on a rest for quite a long time. It's not going to be good for our health if we eat too much food all at once (or at one sitting). So, it's important that we eat slowly and moderately upon breaking the fast and especially drink lots of water.

Yeah, and that's why it is suggested that if a Muslim lives there, he should move to a city with a more 'normal' day and night so that he can start fasting. Otherwise, he may skip the fast and pay redemption money (called "fidya"), for each day of fasting that he missed, which should be enough to feed a poor person two meals per day (or about 750 grams of food). A lot of sick and elderly Muslims do this because they cannot fast. There are more details at the link below.

Wait wait.....You can bend the rules as long as you drop the coin? HMN, what does that remind me of? Thinking
I bet alot of rich muslims do this because they like to eat. I'd never heard of this before, thanks for the link.

You know I once did a minor fast as part of a sweat lodge ceremony (ex-wife got us the invites). It was an experience. How many days in are you now?

I don't WANT you to feel bad for me. I'm sure a lot of you don't. Compassion is for fools! Wink

One doesn't even have to be rich to pay the "fidya."
Almost anyone can do this, but it is only allowed if we have a good reason for not being able to fast (such as having an illness or going on a long journey). If a Muslim is healthy, then he should fast.
