How Do You Perceive Death?

If death is truly as you guys say and there is no perception after we're gone then what does it matter how we live, we can never again perceive anything again.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Not that question.  In my opinion, then it matters even more because it is a one shot deal. Why wouldn't it matter? If you only had one chance to bake a cake, would you not care how it came out just because you would never bake a cake again? I am frightened of the person you would become without religion. Just because we can't perceive it after we die doesn't mean we don't understand that life will continue on afterwards. We try to be good to help our fellow humans. Whether we're here to see the fruits of that behavior is of no importance, because that's not what helping people is about.

This quote by Christopher Hitchens sums up my view of death nicely, "We'll all [be told] 'the party's over'. Worse, 'the party is going on, but you have to leave'".
Maybe if my lifespan was say a million, even a billion of trillion years I would think differently. However I am likely going to live for a lot less than even a thousand years. It is no surprise why we humans seem to have a inbuilt belief in an afterlife, in-spite of the scientific evidence so far which tells us that it is very likely that there is no afterlife.
