Live long or die young?
#21
RE: Live long or die young?
Not fair. You're saying that I just choose to die young. Im answering the Faustian hypothetical, not making a decision about whether or not to die young or old. Ridiculous. If you get to change the rules and simply say, yeah, my old age is going to be nothing but an awesome party, that isn't exactly a factor in the decision is it.

You have two options, a regular old age ending in obscurity with a boring life prior to that

OR

An amazing life, with adventure and power, possibly fame and dying young.

Answer the question as it is stated --- I choose option 2. Dying young and powerful.

At at 17,my mates and me called our folks "the olds".Mum was 38. Dad was 45.

I just about lost the plot when I hit 30; the realisation of the end of youth, but that was when I actually REALLY began to enjoy life! I discovered THE perfect age is 39. My absolute BEST years ever; 1984 (age 37) and 2010 (age 63) I'm 64 next month, and wouldn't be dead for a million dollars. I savor EVERY day! A young person is anyone 10 years younger than me; 20 is a child. An old person is anyone 10 years older than me.

Hymn to youth.'THE WHO'----- "My Generation" ( "hope I die before I get old")

Nah, I don't think so, I'm not at all fond of false dichotomies. I often answer the question I want, regardless of what has been asked.Tiger

Quote:Yeah, you go ahead and laugh at us who died young and powerful while you shit in your diapers, losing all your dignity

Fuck dignity, I'd rather have an undignified life than not exist at all;it's pain and lost marbles I fear.

What about my description isn't an accurate representation of a "regular old age"..lol? That's how my great grandfather went out.

(I would choose a long life of obscurity even in the absence of these things btw)
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

All he said was a life of obscurity - not that it wouldn't be one of quality. I'll go for old age, as long as Alzheimer's isn't involved. As I told Rhythm before, according to family history I'll probably die in my 60's anyway.

Think of it this way, when you get older no one bats an eye when you pay a pretty young girl to wipe your ass and wash your sack. (while you get roasted and zooted on all manner of legally available and affordable drugs)

Thanks for putting it into perspective for us, a chara.

Indeed, for the vast majority of humanity, after the death of the last person who knew us, it's as if we never existed.

What I would have liked is my "go fuck yourself money" at about 40.(I got it at 51) I think celebrity/fame is grossly overrated, I'd far prefer "power without glory". That is coincidentally the title of a spiffing book by Australian writer Frank Hardy.

The question was a life of fame or obscurity, but it didn't say it had to be shallow fame. I would love to be known forever for having written one of the greatest pieces of literature of my time or being a world renown humanitarian. To me, that is worth a short life easily.

The former. People already think I'm thirty from my posture, speech, and intelligence... by the time I'm thirty the really old people will see eye to eye with me Wink
