This guy is obviously a mental case.
I live in a muslim country, and have never saw a case where a person offered his/her children as a sacrifice.

The psychosis is not in doubt, its the exacerbation by the religious/superestious beliefs that was the point.
In the quaran there are djinns mentioned which seem to equate to demons in christion mythology.
This belief led her to her despicable act which was at least partially inspired by Isalm.

Not all muslims kill thier babies in the same way that not all muslims fly planes into buildings.

But some do.

How culpable is the religion in these acts?

How often is it the culture that surrounds the religion culpable, associated to the faih but not actually part of the text. things like wearing the burqa and the other forms of 'oppresion by clothing', not in the texts but still part of islam.
In the case of this deluded mad woman she seemed to dwell on the spooky parts and this led her to commit a terrible crime.

Well, true, but I think that even if she didn't believe in anything, she might have started to do so, after hearing the voices.
She even might have invented his own God to do, or something else, like the dog made me do it.
I don't see the corrolation between religion, and this poor girl's murder.
If it were something like an honor killing or so, yeah, okay. I would say that there is a link between the religious/cultural associations of the arab and tajik with honour killings.
