War
#21
RE: War
Altough I'm not a guy that likes carnage, death and ruin, war as always been there. There is the dillemma: if you grow without military strenght, you are asking to be owned, if you do, you want war. I think an equilibrium is needed. How? I don't know, I long given up on politics.

As bad as things seem to be sometimes, they could be much worse and I will defend my way of life.

And yet Switzerland has managed to survive all these years.

True for now, but "it ain't over 'til the fat lady sings". It is a sorry legacy for the human race and I do not foresee it changing much over the next millennium.

RE: War
I see nothing wrong with fighting. Nor with pain, which fighting usually brings.

And she still keeps up military training to defend itself from invasion.

I'd like to see someone try to invade it. I really would. It would be funny.

Oh, and it wouldn't be me. I want to crush the weakened participants afterwards.

RE: War
War has been happening since the dawn of time. Wars between matter, wars between cells, wars between animals, wars between humans. It's part of the universe we live in as far as I'm concerned.

That said I still think we should get our asses out of that piss stained desert.

RE: War
I don't think war is a part of the universe give me a break. Maybe war of constantly changing energy, but not a bang bang ur dead which we subscribe too.

We have wars cause of greed, pretty simple, and greed is a human construct. We are animals with a consciousness with the ability to effect the world around us through conscious thought.

War in the human sense is basically humans killing humans for the purpose of enfranchising a certain person or persons.

The only time I see war as a natural thing is, No food, no water, no shelter, then and only then would or should a war or fight happen, anything after you have those needs, your just being greedy.

Of course their are circumstances like WW2, but I hope we can evolve past stupid things like religion/power as a reason for war.

RE: War
Hate it.
Would like to claim to be a pacifist but I can't because if the cause is right then I'd support a war.
Fortunately for me, I'm of an age that would not be conscripted to fight, so it's easy for me to be gung-ho about it, safe in the knowledge that others younger than I will be doing the dying.
I am also uncomfortable with people who say " we " are doing the right thing ( in waging war ) when it is not themselves doing the dying.
I won't vote on this subject cause I truly hate the concept of war.
As my old pal Shelley put it:-

" War is the statesman's game, the priest's delight,
the lawyer's jest, the hired assassin's trade "

Of course it is. Just because we are intelligent enough to make and use tools does not make it any less natural. Survival of the fittest, anything goes. Where is Neanderthal man or the Cro-Magnon? As I said in an earlier post in another thread, even today we are committing genocide. Aboriginal tribes are scarce and becoming more scarce.

It is nice to believe in Utopia (and kudos to anyone that does) but, unfortunately, that is fodder for dreams (or theists). We are what we are and we are life. Life is aggressive. That is what makes life work. Reality is a bitch.

Um, invasion would make that money worth jack shit for the foreseeable future. You can vacation there without destroying it.

RE: War
Can I just say that under the terms of RevJer's original post, I have serious concerns about anyone who voted 'oppose', and I really hope none of you are ever in a position of power where you get to determine policy on that sort of thing. You don't think you should defend your country against invasion? What are you going to do, roll over and take a cannon up your asshole?

RE: War
Defending your own country is different... The assholes who come and invade you are the ones going to war, you have no real option. Just because he said that if you believe in defending your country but not invading then you would support it doesn't mean I think that. I think he is wrong on that one, I think that would mean you oppose it.

I'm only opposed to it in the sense that if I had my way then the world would be very, very different and we wound't need war... But, it is sometimes needed in the shit world we live in...
