I think Christians fear death because of hell. The priests and preachers and ministers preach that if you do wrong, you are going to hell, which is eternal pain and suffering. Christians are afraid of that. I am not afraid at all of that
That's why people are afraid of death. The christians who are terrible people, but want to ask for forgiveness the moment before death. You can't ask for forgiveness if you fall asleep and have a heart attack. Or if a ninja comes out of no where and slices your head off

If it was eternal pain and suffering which I should be afraid of, I couldn't care less, I'd get pretty used to it eventually. Hell some sick fucks actually enjoy pain and suffering so I guess I might end up the same after a few hundred million years or so.

I don't think people should live their lives chasing down arbitrary goals for this very reason. If your life isn't "full" without getting married, having kids, etc., then it won't be full after you do those things either. Live every day like it is your last and you will never feel as though you haven't accomplished anything. You will see beauty and richness in the mundane.
I don't know about that. There is no beauty in the mundane. Most of the things I would use with that description are time wasters and generally not enjoyable. I live life to accomplish my goals so I have something to be motivated by. They are not arbitrary if they are what you desire. Live every day like it's my last? Impossible to do because I would pay no mind to the future. Trust me, I haven't accomplished anything besides good grades. If I died now my life would have been meaningless. Sorry to sound all depressing but it's the truth.
If I die and god is real, im so screwed.

There is no beauty in the mundane? Trust me, if you knew you were to die in 1 minute, you would savor everything around you. It is entirely possible to live every day like it was your last and still have goals. When you realize that the journey is just as important as the destination, you are truly living.
That will never hold up in court...

I might savor the one minute but I wouldn't enjoy it. But I think I'll just agree to disagree on this one. Although, I must ask what's the point of the journey if you don't reach the destination?

Are you kidding? If you walked from your house to Los Angeles, don't you think you'd experience some pretty amazing things along the way, even if you never reached LA? If you got to the California border and dropped down, ready to die, would you think it was all wasted time even though you met incredible people along the way and experienced things that would make you the envy of everyone you know? This is the entire point. Plus, I don't know of anyone in the world who has ever accomplished all their goals, because as your life continues you come up with more, as you should. In fact, reaching the destination you speak of should be more or less impossible, from my eyes.
What Phaedra is talking about (I believe) is savouring things like a shared moment of closeness with a friend, or looking around you and realising how lucky you are for various reasons, things you normally take for granted.
I find it quite sad that you think your life would have been meaningless if you died today. Are there not people who would remember you fondly and speak of you years from now, reminiscing about that time you did such and such, or the way you used to do that thing you always did, and laugh?
Balls, I was going to make another thread regarding this yesterday, but didn't. I'll do it now. Hang tight.

Motorcycle riding is like that...It isn't about the destination... more about how you got there.

Common comment, "But motorcycles are so dangerous!!"
My reply," Well of course they are, that's why they're so much fun"
If you're not supposed to ride faster than your guardian angel can fly then mine had better get a bloody SR-71.
