My salary gets reduced by income tax and student loan repayments as well, so at the end of the day I would class myself as "comfortable", but certainly in no financial state to holiday and save for a (decent) computer.
I suppose I could live somewhere cheaper, but the benefits of my current place really make up for the costs. I have a place to my own, it's in the centre of town, and it's nice to live in.
Heh, so that's a yes then. ;D
You could try my method of getting a new PC, one or two new parts each paycheck. Put it together when you get it all home.

Woah no freakin way, graphics on a modern gaming PC completely own the shit out of any consoles.
I did say specifically in my case as my wife keeps my computer budget near zero. Here's a tidbit of the story of my first day buying Skyrim
Grabed the last copy from the only place I could find locally (I hate downloading games) after working all night (I work third shift) go to install it and freezes up.
Realize that I haven't played a real game (not java based or freeware) in about 6 years. Realized that I was using my onboard video from a 6 year old emachine... it didn't even have half the minimum requirements for the game. More calamity ensued after that involving razor blades and duct tape, but with an older machine using onboard video a console would have been much better graphically.
