Even when I was six years old and we were getting religious indoctrination in primary school I could never see it as anything other than fairytales. And that was without any help from my parents who were non-religious(rather than actual atheists).

I think what pisses me off more than anything else is the extraordinary lengths theists will go to and the mental gymnastics they will perform in order to validate their book of fairytales.

Even though ALL of the physical evidence is against it they will still proclaim their particular book to be the ABSOLUTE truth.

I'm with Blas on this one - that first he seeks to create criminals (free thought) and then punish them.

On the grounds of being raised Jewish, I oppose Christianity because Christ didn't fulfill messianic prophecies.

On a personal level I also hate the need to proselytize - if your religion was so fucking great, you wouldn't need to fill people with fear and bullshit to get them to sign up.

And relating to some videos Trist posted not so long ago, I am deeply offended by any religion that would espouse faith in the place of reason and label logic as evil.

I find it abhorrent that one man should be made "human" and punished for all of humanity's sins with torture and death. You have put a murderer on equal footing with a petty liar and punished them equally (ie, not at all) by heaping your blame on the perfect scapegoat and allowing someone else to be your whipping boy. Thank 'god' for secular law that doesn't trust in divine justice.

'Christ didn't fulfill messianic prophecies'

My mormon friend can't understand why Jews are still Jewish as Christ fulfilled the prophecies. I don't have the heart to tell an old man that he didn't.

Mormons are about the most deluded of all Christians, so I'm not surprised.

I wish I could count the number of times people asked me over the years "But WHY can't you believe Christ is the messiah?" to which I always waved my hand at the world in general and said "...because it's pretty much still shite out there?! What the fuck did he do when he was here?!"

This was the thing that convinced me that Fundamentalism was bullshit. I am still struggling with a few things so I don't know if you can categorize me as Atheist, but as useful information, read the info on the link.

BTW I had been thinking for quite some time about working on some sort of organized online resource for those questioning Christianity. Information does exist on the internet but it isn't very organized. I think this can be done if anyone is interested. I would love to be a contributor. I have studied theology for many years, there are others who have done the same.

Currently I am researching the scientific explanations for what appears to be spiritual phenomena. I am making some headway on this.

Organization is the key to any online resource. there is a lot of stuff out there but finding it can be difficult, especially if you don't exactly know what you are looking for (and, like I did, newbies can have a disturbing feeling that god will punish them for even looking at such stuff).
Also there is a great variety of info out there. because people learn in different ways so different approaches are needed. For example some people need to feel like they aren't alone. Therefore testimonies (blogs) and forum links are useful. Other's (like me) need to read college level theology. Some need philosophy. Other's are very visual so links to youtube videos are useful.

I think a large project might be difficult, after all there is life beyond the internet, but organized links could be helpful and the content can be crowd sourced. I don't mean to make things complicated this was just an idea I have been contemplating.
