I second that. Krauss's lecture on "A Universe from nothing" is brilliant, and definitely one to be watched by anyone having trouble grasping how this could come about.

I wonder who among us will sit through the full hour though?
(Incidentally I was dithering about whether to embed the vids rather than just give links. I thought that a wall of videos might have seemed a bit too daunting, and I'm still not sure I made the right decision. Why is life so damn complicated?)
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

Well I guess that took some time to compose. Why did you bother to do such a thing on an atheist forum?
I can't begin to tell you how uninterested I am in your personal superstitions.
I hope you have something a bit more engaging to say.
Harsh? Me? Beliefs based on faith and personal certitude, unsupported by evidence, are often called 'faith based'. I call them 'superstitions' ,which I consider more precise and intellectually honest.

Thanks everyone for the welcomes. Someone asked why I came to these forums, and to be honest I don't know. I also go on religious forums, always interested in hearing thoughts of other people.

I've watched the whole lecture by Krauss, though I need to watch it again. A lot of it went over my head.

Whilst I believe that a knowledge of God is properly basic, I disagree with the design argument, so I think your logic is flawed at that point.
i.e. If we can logically infer God as basic then everything else follows and needs no further support.

Teensy bit confused as to what your arguing for in the first half. A god that is ultimately good and moral, all loving, omnibenevolent and all that jazz?
Then is the second half you claim this god created everything, or at least guided the design of everything?
Then whence cometh evil? Where did all the nasty pathogens come from?
Also: this deistic 'God' is a 'He'?
