Why I believe in God.

RE: Why I believe in God.
Do you imagine that there is a separate process for birds wings and insects wings? One group of creatures aqcuires them one way, and another through an entirely different channel?

(a god of butterflies, or any insect, would make sense of the massive amount of the fuckers on this rock wouldn't it ElD..lol)

Fun fact, beetles alone comprise 22% of described species.

RE: Why I believe in God.
Hello! I'm a newbie too AND a deist (brought up RC but not very good at following ALL the rules).

I believe in a creator, but only to set the ball in motion. The Universal Gardner may well be tinkering but if he is, evolution is his tool. Butterfly wings obviously evolved and if you read any entomology texts, you would see many "stepping stones" that lead from a basic to a complex and colourful wing. I'm afraid your problems here are a lack of study, comprehension and imagination. I know that sounds a bit rude but trust me, I don't mean it in that way.

As far as I am concerned, there is no testable scientific theory that is incompatible with the existence if a God.

There is nothing beneficial of something sticking out of the side that does nothing. And 1/999th of a butterlfy wing is not really advantageous over a 1/1001 of a butterfly wing, so hence there is a problem, it's not heading towards a wing by natural selection.

The changes don't have to be advantageous - if the animal lives long enough to produce offspring, that will be enough to get the change passed to the next generation. A 1/1001 of a butterfly wing is not a wing, but it's not a deadly mutation either, so it will get passed on to the next generation.

[As it happens, I know SFA about evolution, so just for the sake of argument, I'll agree with whatever you have to say on the subject - and you can get back to describing your god and proving it exists.]

While I have an issue with pretty much everything you said, the thing that stands out the most to me was that. I think your logic is completely backwards with that. People (9 times out of 10) have to be taught to believe in God. So if a creator exists, why would he not ingrain us with properly basic knowledge of himself? I thought so.

In response to everything else you believe, well... just because you believe it doesn't mean it's right or true. If you have no real proof, you have no justification to claim your beliefs are true, and you're probably wrong.

RE: Why I believe in God.
So, Chadster, a world in which your god is present would appear to be absolutely identical to the natural world(in which god is not present)? Functionally non-existent gods ftw.

Except relational quantum mechanics and relativity.*

*where, by "God" I assume you mean a creator that 1) knows anything and 2) can do anything. Unless by "incompatible with God" you mean "that is composed of rules that God can't break, because God can break all the rules", which is sort of meaningless.

RE: Why I believe in God.
Sorry. Explain why quantum mechanics and relativity (special or general?) are incompatible with the notion of a God?

Explain how they are?
You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.

Norfolk. Read the thread. Toro said they are incompatible with God and I want to know how. Don't just disagree for the sake of it.
