Why Atheism and Secular Humanism are Failed Philosophies

RE: Why Atheism and Secular Humanism are Failed Philosophies
My favorite thing about this dude was the whole "we will have machines inserted into our brains" thing. Can that happen today so I can sit back at work and let the machine do my job? Sounds pretty awesome. I'll be napping so get to work, machine.

Quote:I apologize for the scary visuals.

Well...don't apologize.

I mean - I lived through it.

Let's not go overboard here.

Ah, but be careful with what you jack your head into. Wouldn't want some ghost in the machine making "suggestions", would we....? I don't know, personally, I think anything sophisticated enough to create an entirely virtual world over and above the one your mind has already created is a double edged sword and probably shouldn't be granted direct access to your mind. Hasn't this sort of "reality" already caused us enough trouble without technological assistance? Angel
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I have no problem disengaging from the game. Get out for a hike, a single-speed mountain bike ride, or get to work on the car or bike, and I'm full out of the loop, no "gosubs" necessary.

Isn't there some Highlander song "Who wants to live forever?"

Yep, the idea of something/someone controlling my mind.. um, i'll go with no on that. Now, the idea of escaping reality for a bit, ok... but to give up full rein to a machine, negative.

Hahaha, this video is awesome, good call, Summer!

I suppose if you consider that we are all constructed out of "energy"; more or less a collage of this stuff. If you take the 2nd law of thermodynamics into consideration, "energy" cannot be created or destroyed; thus we do not have a literal "creator" nor can we (or the "energies" that currently make up the collage of who we are at the moment) be destroyed... aka "we live forever".

Truth is... neither the so-called "creation" or the "destruction" concern me as much as the time of experience (assumed between these two points of extreme) that I have the opportunity to enjoy. I find the experience of what it is to be alive is far more intriguing than answering any such anthropomorphic queries/phobias such as "where did it all come from" and "what happens after the experience known as living is over"... why waste now for a speculation of something you cannot possibly answer with any coherence? As for me... I really have much better hobbies to pursue.

Moral is as moral does and as moral wishes it all too be. - MoS

The absence of all empirical evidence for the necessity of intuitive X existing is evidence against the necessary empirical existence of intuitive X - MoS (variation of 180proof)

Athesim is not a system of belief, but rather a single answer to a single question. It is the designation applied by theists to those who do not share their assumption that a god/deity exists. - MoS

I am not one to attribute godlike qualities to things that I am unable to understand. I may never be in the position to understand certain things, but I am not about to create an anthropomorphic deity out of my short-commings. I wish not to errect a monument to my own personal ignorace and demand that others worship this proxy of ego. - MoS

That must also mean that there might be other people inside me Wink
