Username/Avatar ... why oh why?

RE: Username/Avatar ... why oh why?
Reverend Jeremiah is a character that I invented for comic books, video games, and radio personality.

My avatar is a profile of how I draw him.

Why did you choose the username you go by?
Because I just thought that it would be more desirable to present myself with my own name since that is who I am.

Why did you choose the avatar you use?
Because I like the design of spider webs (and lots of animal/nature stuff).
Also, they are very thin, flexible, invisible at night, and yet 5 times stronger than steel (by weight comparison) which even puts Spiderman to shame.

My username is a Stargate reference, because I love Stargate, and my avatar is a picture I find amusing, and will probably change on a whim sometime soon to something else I find amusing.

It's a christian demon that's worshiped on a toilet and that's funny. Also, Belphegor is one of my favorite bands.

Username: The "Rye" part came first. For a long time, J.D. Salinger's The Catcher In The Rye was my favorite novel, and whenever I would join a forum, I would usually add "intherye" to the end of the name. Admittedly, though, The Brothers Karamazov may have eclipsed this position in recent years (particularly in the Pevear and Volokhonsky translation, but that's another story.)

The "Rev." part comes from the fact that I was ordained into the Universal Life Church (ordination date 3/10/07). And, of course, I like the irony of writing anti-religious things while calling myself "Reverend."

Avatar: It's one of the guys from one of my favourite paintings: Nighthawks. Coincidentally, it's at the museum in my hometown.

Got the username nearly 15 years ago now, playing FPS games with buddies. Use it for just about everything to do with the internet. I was usually a terrible baddie, until I got into a rhythm (at which point I became downright pro, if only for a short while).

My avatar? It's awesome, and she was asking for it anyway. I'd be willing to change it to something more offensive in a heartbeat.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I can't be bothered explaining my username... I'll just say it is a nickname.

As for my avatar, that is me and my homies playing in a shitty bar.

I suppose now that I have set this (dead) thread into motion, I too should provide a bit of "self-indulgence" here as to who the hell is the mayor.

1. My user name has sort of become my real ego... as GREG is my alter-ego.
My family and friends over the years have understood very little about who I am and rather worked upon assumptions. I have been very athletic all of my life; thus the assumption of "typical dumb jock" has been a connotation I have never been able to shake off. In addition to this, I am rather dyslexic... reading and writing, not in the physical sense of the term. The result was that my lack of interest in read has lead many to view me as an idiot. My parents have more the a few times refered to me, in my presence, as a "simpleton". The rest of my family tends to share this conviction, that is... without ever having a conversation with me that lasted more than 2 minutes.
As for my friends, they have noticed my tendency to lash out critque regarding politics. No realizing that I have really no use for this senseless folly, they are under the misconception that I would actually have the nerve to enter into politics... thus my addition to "mayor" to the assumption of "simpleton".
If this was not enough, it happens to be one of my favourite songs from my favourtie band of all time... XTC. Truth is, this song is rather descriptive of many aspects of my life. I'm pleased to say that I had the pleasure of meeting Andy Partridge in an airport once. One of the best 2 hours of my life.

2. The avatar is of my cats. Two of which have left this world (only memories now to make me smile) and the other two are currently enriching my life (and destroying my furnature). I find that I have learned much more about living from my cats and any classes I have had during my time of obtaining a B.S. in Philosohy and Religion. I owe much to my cats. They have always been there for me (and Ms. Mayor, who is also there for me... my life is rather cool, even if I'm generally misunderstood... Kind of Good as Gold/Stupid as Mud... yeah yeah... it's kind of bouncy, but hey... not everything in life is "hardcore".).

I'll bow out now with a dramatic....

Meow!

GREG
Moral is as moral does and as moral wishes it all too be. - MoS

The absence of all empirical evidence for the necessity of intuitive X existing is evidence against the necessary empirical existence of intuitive X - MoS (variation of 180proof)

Athesim is not a system of belief, but rather a single answer to a single question. It is the designation applied by theists to those who do not share their assumption that a god/deity exists. - MoS

I am not one to attribute godlike qualities to things that I am unable to understand. I may never be in the position to understand certain things, but I am not about to create an anthropomorphic deity out of my short-commings. I wish not to errect a monument to my own personal ignorace and demand that others worship this proxy of ego. - MoS

Our esteemed member FaithNoMore is the only one who knew where my username comes from, but I suppose I can share with the class.

Cinjin Cain (my original name on this site & other sites), was the name of my dog. (I often called him Cin [sin]) I truly loved him and I have turned his name into a brand - even naming one of my companies after him.

The avatar means nothing. Never has.

Cin was so amazing that I have never owned another dog.
