Regarding the meaning of adelphos in Galations 1:19
Is the meaning of adelphos literal or metaphorical?

1:19 But I saw none of the other apostles except James the Lord’s brother.

Interesting question, and I presume that this comes out of investigating the "Jesus Myth" hypothesis which has become so popular on the internet. The best way to pursue a reasoned answer to this question, it seems to me, is to begin with the question "Why does the Paul call James the "Lord's brother" when he does not speak of any other named person (e.g. Peter in the previous verse) in this way?" Also 1 Corinthians 9:5 is important to consider, where the writer uses the phrase "the Lord's brothers".

Rather than redirecting, I am interested in how you would answer this poll question regarding the meaning of adelphos in Galations 1:19--
literal or figurative?

I think I am the only voter so far! Following the line of reasoning in my previous post, I see no way to make sense of Paul's language within its context unless "Lord's brother(s)" refers to Jesus' brother(s). Other references throughout the New Testament (and also Josephus) confirm that Jesus had a brother called James; the obvious reason for that is that he did, and it is this James that Paul is referring to.

You need an option that says "bullshit myth".

I don't even think Jebus existed, therefore, I don't think "figurative" or "literal" are valid answers at all.

My problem here is that there is no more evidence for "Paul" than there is for Jesus.

Artemis was considered the twin sister of Apollo. Does the fact that someone wrote down this myth make it real?

My question is simply to define a word in this context. The question which are trying to evade is valid.

But do you think the context needs to be examined or do you simply accept it at face value?

I don't understand your "problem." Would you please clarify it?
