Would this be decent evidence for reincarnation?
#21
RE: Would this be decent evidence for reincarnation?
Reincarnation is bullshit woo, like every other religion and superstition. On par with Ouija Boards, Thor, Apollo Jesus, ALLAH and even claims of the Transporter from Star Trek becoming a reality. It is bullshit woo on par with Bigfoot and lucky socks. Popularity of bullshit does not change that it is bullshit.

If you buy into reincarnation you might as well believe in "THE FORCE" of Star Wars, or believe that Harry Potter flies around on brooms.

You don't believe in lucky socks?

No wonder the Redskins keep losing.

He is eager to debunk (or when he can't, ignore) all the rational explanations of these tricks, but he doesn't have anything near that criticism for the tricks themselves. Cold calls and magic tricks have been around forever and people who are fooled into thinking they prove the supernatural just haven't looked into or don't understand how they work.

Eh? No you see there are things that we have good and clear understanding of and there are things we don't know. The things we don't know are of course fully open to investigation based on whatever evidence we have. There are all these claims of knowledge being made in this thread that I would accuse belief systems based on faith and/or personal opinion.

There isn't anything that we know about that would prevent it from happening unlike the other examples you mentioned. We know how Ouija Boards actually work for instance we know why a Star Trek style teleporter couldn't work and so on. We have some data there to go on.

You don't have to buy into anything to look at the evidence that potentially could be there for it. We don't get to state what can and can't happen you find out based on evidence, any evidence is worth looking at even if it's something we would think is odd.

NOW YOU TELL ME! That would also explain all the Abba haters too.

From now on I am not changing my socks.

You do know that atheism is meant to be a lack of belief right? There's nothing in atheism that would prevent the possibility for anything like this. Something I think religious believers don't really understand either.

UGGGGGGGG......

We are not talking about a claim that started in a science lab. We are not talking about a claim that you teach universally in ALL colleges WORLDWIDE.

I don't buy into ANYTHING simply because someone likes it or because it is tradition.

Reincarnation is bullshit woo, PERIOD.

There are lots of things I don't consider. I don't consider Ouija Boards or Thor either. How much time do you waste on bullshit you know is not true?

I could "potentially" fart a Lamborghini out of my ass. Because Lamborghinis are real and my ass is real, the "potential" means it could happen?

The ability to string letters and words and sentences together is horribly mundane. Evidence does not start out with woo or tradition, nor does that which is universal need depend on the bias of morons who simply make the naked assertion "it could happen"

Monkeys could fly out of my ass if that is the case.

I want to weigh in a bit because I'm quite fascinated with people who think that there's this "something else" that houses our consciousness, memories and identity.

First off, let's establish that even as we are, we're not conscious about a lot of things. You're not conscious about how the neurons are working in your brain or how your stomach is digesting food and so on, even though it's part of you. So our consciousness is severely limited, and if it wasn't we'd probably be too distracted to do much at all, which suggests that whatever it is that allows us to be conscious is subjected to evolutionary pressures as well, which strongly suggests that it is susceptible to death.

Secondly, split brain people. One of my profs is actually making us do a review on neuro stuff recently, and split brain is something that really sheds light on how consciousness is affected by the state of the brain. For those who aren't familiar, cutting the corpus callosum, splitting the right and left brain and preventing any transfer of information between them, creates split brain. These people are only able to verbalize what their left brain perceives. The left brain isn't conscious about what the right brain perceives and cannot express it. But the right brain can express itself by moving the left hand or drawing, with the left hand, from all appearances, the right brain is not conscious of the left brain. So these patients' left hand would behave in a contradictory manner to their right hand occasionally, as if there are 2 personalities in one body. You can look up experiments (nothing creepy, just asking these people to perform simple tasks) with split brain people on youtube, it's very interesting.

As I delve deeper into neuroscience and psychology, it seems that the brain is all that we are. I know some people think that we just don't know enough, but I have a suspicion that nothing will qualify as "enough" until we find the existence of a "soul" or "something else".

The religions that are based around the concept could well be as they aren't based on evidence they're based on faith. Studies involving remembered past lives on young children are based on evidence and they have a vastly better than chance hit rate. Statistically the evidence for genuine memories of real locations and people dating back to a time period before they were born is significant. We have very small details being mentioned here so it's something to take seriously.

There would have to be a reason why you could that because we know that doesn't normally happen. We don't know that something like reincarnation doesn't normally happen it well might. It's research well worth funding as they could be many cases like this one out there that aren't being recorded or taken seriously.

But this happens to people who don't even believe in reincarnation as it isn't part of their tradition as in this case of this example.

Quote:Monkeys could fly out of my ass if that is the case.

They could but there would have to be a reason for it if they did because we know for a fact that doesn't normally happen.

Actually....yes. I think it was Steve-O on Jackass who had a Matchbox toy car in his rectum? Given enough beer and bean burritos...

The Earth could be sheathed in some kind energy field or some shit we know nothing about at this point. Think Final Fantasy 7 style Mako Energy.

And this will be a natural part of the universe as a whole with different planets being linked together in some kind of a...thing going on. We don't fucking know. So worth taking various possibilities seriously if there is a chance of knowing something about it.
