This is where I'm at. The Windows 10 UI is so ugly to my eyes it is simply unacceptable. And what really pisses me off is that it would be trivial to add the option of Aero to W10. The code already exists. In their arrogance, MS obviously wants to shove their drab, flat look on us - whether we want it or not.

Fuck them. I won't use it.

That's the least of my concerns. I don't run a beauty contest with my operating systems. Possible compatibility issues are more of a concern to me.

As for the design. I think it's an educated guess they're aiming for the tablet market and didn't want to spend additional development resources on creating two different versions. It may not be that easy to implement the old visual features.

I have a flag also, but it says "download" Windows 10.

Mine says I'm in a queue.

Quote:Pretty bad. But we have even lower to go, as we've seen that by default, Windows 10 actually steals bandwidth from your ISP connection so that Microsoft can use your computer, and your connection, to send MS updates to their other customers.
Huh? Say what?
Yep. It's a devious little feature called Windows Update Delivery Optimization. It's enabled by default. For Enterprise and Education users, it operates over the local LAN. For ordinary Home type users, Microsoft can send their data update goodies to potentially any PC on the global Internet -- from your PC, over your Internet connection. On your dime.
We could get into the pros and cons of local updates being staged between local machines on a LAN as opposed to the outside Internet.

Someone with a load more of technical expertise than I will need to weigh in on this.

Apparently it can be shut off.... but that doesn't make it pass the smell test.

After years of decrying bittorrent for software distribution, M$ has now included a proprietary version in their OS. Fucke these hypocritical bastards.

It seems to work ok, once I removed the stupid apps from the start menu, things I will never use anyway. (when did programs turn into apps anyway??) It is much better than windoze 8 but why did they make the UI so ugly? The sharp square corners on all the windows just make it look harsh and nasty somehow. I will give it a few weeks and then decide if it stays or gets turned back into a penguin!
(emphasis is mine)

When M$ decided to standardize their OS across platforms. They took the common mobile (their target audience) name for programs and adopted it for all platforms.

Windows became more and more UI customization friendly up to and including Windows XP (you needed a simple unlock hack). Since then they have been taking that back bit by bit. While it's not integral to the functionality (and you really never see all that much of the UI's appearance when running in full-screen) it was nice to be able to modify damned near everything about how the Windows UI appeared. Necessary for the OS? No. Nice to have? Yep. Just another reason to dislike M$.

Those of you who don't want to wait for your turn in the reservation queue to come up - you can download 10 from Microsoft.com. Google "site:Microsoft.com download Windows 10". You'll need a DVD-R or a 4GB or larger flash stick.

RE: Windows 10
SO, according to the M$ web page CD so graciously notified us of, you can only upgrade. You cannot format and do a clean install without buying a 10 license. If that is indeed true, then fuck M$ and fuck Windows 10.

RE: Windows 10
I didn't wait to get notified. I just dl'd the windows 10 as an iso and it installed perfectly.
I read you can do a clean install but only if the license version allows it.
As long as you enter the serial.
Eg: you can only do a clean install for an OEM license on the original hardware.
No enterprise, volume license, msdn, etc are acceptable.
Having said that, ages ago, I installed a windows 7 ultimate from one of my msdn available keys and it detected it as a retail win7 and upgraded fine. The iso dl was only 3 gig.
