RE: Ask a married guy...
If you marry a plant, would you then legally be allowed to smoke it's offspring?
No God, No fear.

Actually we had Pi Cake, and Pi cupcakes.

Please tell me you are not kidding.  Because that is awesome.

I can't see myself getting married because I dread the idea of any man I love
ever getting to the point where he thinks of me as a "ball and chain"
or otherwise resents me.

Do you ever get bored being married? That'd be my worry if I ever get married.

I have been married over 20 years.  I do not think of my wife that way at all.  She was my best friend before I married her, and she has continuously been my best friend ever since.  If I did not want to be legally glued to her, I would not have married her.  I am happy with my situation, and expect to be married to her for the rest of my life (as she is younger than I am, and women, on average, live longer than men).  That thought does not bother me in the least.  In fact, I like that idea, and hope she does not die first.

So, if you married, whether the man you marry ever feels like you are a "ball and chain" is going to depend on the man, and, of course, you.  I recommend only marrying if he is your best friend.  Of course, some people have other arrangements that seem to work for them, so what might work for you is difficult for me to say.  I would not want to marry someone who was not my best friend.

Thanks for posting that.  I know you're right.

I am not bored being married.  I was very careful in choosing my wife, and am very happy to be with her.  She is very nice and very smart and very reasonable.  I like those qualities very much, and am very glad to be with her.  I have been married to her over 20 years.  If I could go back in time and not marry her, I would certainly not do that.  I am very happy with my situation.

For anyone contemplating marriage, I recommend thinking very carefully about what you want out of life first, to make sure that whatever that is, is compatible with you getting married to whomever it is you are contemplating marrying.  And also, be very careful about the person you are marrying.  I recommend not getting married if your head and your heart do not both agree that it is a good idea.  (If you need those metaphorical terms explained, just ask.)

I appreciate this advice. I understand the premise behind marriage, but if two people love one another, why involve the government? Big Grin
