jesus = "godchild", Jesus = popular Hispanic name
god = "supreme abrahamic deity", Göd = town in Hungary
truth = truth, Truth = lies

Don't worry, my friend.  If this be the end, then so shall it be.

I take absolute truth to be a synonym for objective truth. That is, truth that is discovered, not created.

Stating that god is the truth means that the truth has not be discovered, at least according to your definition of truth.

God has always been the easy answer, but never the truth.

You are correct in stating that the truth must be discovered, but creating a temporary answer along the way does no one any good in finding the truth.
Who said god is the truth?

Is "1 + 1 = 2" absolutely true? No one discovered 1, nor did they discover + or =. This statement would be unintelligible to someone using a different system of mathematics. If you define 'absolute' truth simply as this which is, by definition, true, then of course it exists. But that doesn't really mean anything significant. Perhaps by that what you are really asking is "does objective reality exist" to which I would answer that it probably does. But that isn't the most direct way of wording the question, and referring to absolute truth is usually trying to get at something beyond merely acknowledging that reality exists.

Actually yes, it is absolutely true. Mathematical truths are true in all possible worlds. And yes, '1' was discovered, as were the rules of addition and identity.

If something is created, it can be created differently. This is true of mathematical systems, in which the rules of operation can be expressed in various ways.

But the actual content is discovered. You don't get to decide what the sum of two natural numbers are. You only discover them.

In other words, truth.

Truth kind of has to be objective, so objective that it is absolutely, well, true. That is why it's called truth.

Religious folks try to make "absolute truth" or "The Truth" into some hocus pocusy religious superstitious bullshit, when really it just means... truth.

It's like they're trying to look at a green splat that is trivial and actually just absolutely what it is and pretend it's a golden nugget:

If you read what I said carefully, 'objective truth' refers to one of two categories of truth. Simply calling it 'truth' is confused and glosses over the second category.

So what is this objective truth, and why is not viewed objectively? Or indeed universally? Or indeed at all?

Meaning, OP, you're full of shit.

I love the irony inherent in that quote. Big Grin

"Psst.  Hey, Obi-Wan?  Saying that a group of people only act a certain way is you making an absolute statement about them.  Douche."
No, it' saying that only a certain group of people act in that way. They are a subset of the larger group, "Everybeing".

Which is still an absolute statement.

He's giving the Jedi equivalent of "All black people are lazy," with the added irony of doing exactly what he accuses the group he dislikes of doing, proving himself to be a hypocrite. It's the second worse line in the prequel trilogy, only behind, "Anakin, you're breaking my heart!" The entire pre-fight confrontation is just terribly written and acted.

I don't know where you said that? I missed that.

Truth that isn't objective? News to me. If it's not objective it seems kind of pointless calling it 'truth' to me Confused
