That means a belief that you hold simply because "gawd said it, therefore I believe it" without any scientific proof to back up the statement.  Ergo, faith: the act of saying you know something that you don't know.

Since am not an idiot,I believe through validity.

Validity - scientifically provable, measurable, re-testable fact.  Validity cannot be found in a book full of silly myths.

No, it doesn't.

No,

Here is Christian archaeology website, which debunks the claim (by Wood) that fundamentalists use to "show" that Jericho was a walled city at the time of the alleged conquest of Canaan by Joshua. It wasn't, and not even close. Wood's 1990 information was a good guess based on bad data (a bad calibration at the British Museum), and was debunked strongly in 1995.

Here is a lecture from the top Biblical Archaeologist in Israel, an expert on the Davidic Kingdom period, Dr. Israel Finkelstein (Professor of Archaeology at Tel Aviv University), the man who has the most to gain on earth  from proving that there was a real Kingdom of David in history.

doesn't.

Below is one of the top Jewish Rabbis on the question of whether the Hebrews were even slaves in Egypt at all, and whether the Exodus could possibly have happened in the way described in the second book of the Bible. Again, if there is anyone who would benefit from the story being true, it would be these guys. I pointed out whom I am citing because I know if I cite atheists to you, you'll just ignore it. But seriously, the only people who are still saying the Bible stories are true history are fundamentalists who admit that they refuse to even consider the possibility  that the authors of the Bible didn't know the true history, but were instead making up a legendary history by which they could help keep the Israelite/Judean people together after the conquests by Assyria and Babylon (when we think most of the Old Testament was put into its current form).

A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

2. God set Adam up in the first place. Why should a man who has no sense of right and wrong be punished? Even after Adam's so-called fall, we were doing fine, working together peacefully at the tower of Babel.  Your god saw this and was so intimidated by what we might accomplish that he confused our language.  Jesus' death is like a doctor who makes you sick only so you can feel grateful when he makes you well.

God doesn't do things out of love or justice. As one poster called him, that "draconian psychopath" does things because he has the power and no one can stop him.
Let's bring down the argument.

Quote:1. This is an atheist forum. Religion is not respected here for its own sake. If your arguments cannot stand without fiat credulity, we will ridicule them. If you want your religious views to be respected then you should go to a Christian web forum.

The part is true, because this place is anti-religious ,the blue bit is were you go wrong one can pretend to ridicule them even if they are true.
If you want your religious views to be respected then you should go to a Christian web forum.(True) but his here to spread the word, his not looking for any respect he doesn't care if someone here does not respect it,any way God has given each one free will.

Quote:2.

The answer is simple—we are without excuse since we sin too (Romans 3:23; 5:12), and we all deserve death before a perfect Holy God. To assume Adam’s descendants are innocent is a false assumption. Due to the sin nature received from Adam, death is coming for all since all have sinned (Romans 3:23).They were working together peacefully, but earlier on they dis-obeyed God's word to spread out,But man resisted and rebelled against that commandment: in Gen. 11:4, it says,"Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make a name(for ourselves) lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth." False Jesus did not make anyone sick.

Quote:3. Based on what the Bible itself says, we can only conclude that the god Christians have created hates humanity and even created us for the specific purpose that he needed something to hate. Example?

Romans 8: 21 Wrote:Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?

Incorrect verse

Romans 8:21 says

that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God.Romans 8:21

Thats Romans 9:21

Or does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for common use?

Here it isn't saying anything that God created us to hate, but just showing that he has every right over us
Your efforts to “bring down” my arguments failed miserably.
You say he/she/it cares not for respect, yet...
”sinnerdaniel” Wrote:i think you should show some respect regardless if you agree with me or not.
I don’t usually ask for something I don’t care about, but I guess you Christians have your own reasons.
Do why did Adam sin? He did what he was created to do. If we sin because we have a sin nature then Adam must have been created with such. Since it was god who set us up to sin and Jesus is god then yes, Jesus made us sick.
You are reaching for straws both when you point out that I typed an 8 instead of a 9 and when you quote the New American standard instead of the KJV. Paul’s whole argument supports mine for he is saying we are nothing more to god than pots to a potter who does what ever he wants. God does not respect us as human beings. I should say the Church does not respect us.

Maybe you should quit while you're behind.
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.

I may defend your right to free speech, but i won't help you pass out flyers.

Quote:Although Finkelstein is not as extreme as the minimalists, he is often guilty of using the same unwarranted skepticism when reading the Bible. In the interview with Shanks, he says that he believes that he is “in the center” (p. 48) and is “more critical” (in the sense of reading the Bible with a greater level of scrutiny and discernment, p. 51) without venturing into pure minimalism, but denies that the history of major biblical events occurred as they are presented in the pages of Scripture.

Finkelstein is highly critical of those who take the Bible at face value. He says, “I do think we are in a process of liberation from an antiquated reading of the Biblical text… [Some archaeologists] still interpret the Bible very literally…. We tend to give it a more sophisticated reading. This is not to say that the Bible has no history. It means that we need to look at the Biblical material more carefully, in a more sophisticated way (p. 58).
